The Great Hall of the Department of Justice is still sporting Muslim clothing on both the male and female statues there. We can all thank 'Burkha Boy Ashcroft' for his willing guidlines as to what is 'acceptable' art. What in the world did the Department of Justice do for the last 70 years to protect us from this?
We continue to hear that Iraq is the focal point of international terrorism. Hmmmm. The Achille Lauro was terrorized in October 1985 by Palestinians. Let's start there. Name the subsequent terrorist attacks that were conducted by Iraqis. Name one. Hmmmm. Even the United States of America has a higher score than Iraq.
This Padilla character is in SERIOUS trouble! He's a US citizen, who's been held for two years, without the benefit of the US Constitution. Now, we hear that there's all kinds of evidence against him (funny how this info is coming from the would be prosecutors) but the Federal Government is in no hurry to try this guy in a Court of Law. Perhaps the prosecutors are hoping that he'll just die of old age or a chest cold, so that they can't screw this one up like the Lee case.
The invasion and occupation of Iraq is going so well, that the Pentagon started a 'Stop Loss' program. What it means, is that US military personnel who wish to retire, or leave the military at the end of their current tour (contract) are being forced to stay in. This couldn't possibly be a result of alltime low enlistments and reenlistment could it?
Before you get your underwear in a sweaty gob over this post. Yeah, I'm a vet. 1968-1970. A Grunt! But then I didn't desert like your CinC. :S

President Bush today while speaking at the White House, said regarding the United States' presence in Afganistan: "We were invited".

Is there anyone reading this who can tell me the name of the Afgan official, or governing body which made that invitation?
Along with the name, a citation would be helpful. If your response is a parallel to welcoming a burglar after he's already in the house--don't bother to respond.

More evidence that the English language is under horrific assault....Or is that nuclear or nucular assault? It seems painfully obvious that being a child of wealth and power does not help with the Mother tongue.

George Bush has just finished congratulating his poodle, Mr Blair, over the great victory in the recent British elections. A terrific compliment, as Mr Blair's party only lost 100 seats.

The last time George Bush had an approval rating this poor, a bunch of Saudis hijacked airplanes and killed almost 3,000 people. George did what he was told to do to react, and his approval rating skyrocketed.
Now, I'm not about to suggest that 9/11 was orchestrated. For George, it was just dumb luck.
And I don't mind that he got into the NG because of political influence, and I don't mind that he deserted but got the evidence hidden, and I don't mind that the Supreme Court handed him is first election as Pres, and I don't mind that he and his handlers haven't yet caught OBL or Mullah Omar, and I don't mind that he took the focus off OBL to slap Saddam and snatch Iraq's oil, and I don't mind that he and his suck-water cronies lied about why they needed to kill 1600 of our young people and who knows how many Iraqis, and I don't mind his tax cuts for the wealthy, and I don't mind his underfunded "No Child Left Behind", and I don't mind his attempt to blend religious beliefs and civil government, and I don't mind his efforts to gut Social Security.

BUT....Even he can't be dumb enough to try and stage some phoney "miraculous" stunt to get the sheeple to like him again.....Can He?

Here's another one for you.

From 1968 to 1970, I was a Drill Sergeant in Georgia. There were three different occasions when the parents of recruits came to me on Graduation Day, to ask if I could help their son, who was obviously lied to by an Army Recuiter. (for those not familiar, on one of the last days of basic training, a recruit was told what his next training assignment would be) I wish that I could recall the number of times that recruits came to me in tears, describing how the recruiter promised this or that specialty. My only possible response was: "If you don't have it in writing, you are out of luck."

We received one trainee, who couldn't keep up with the others while marching. It seems that he had no toes on one foot. He was completely deaf in one ear. He had signed up with his local recruiter, to be an Airborne Ranger.

I could relate more, but those who don't believe me now, wouldn't believe me later.

Thankfully, those old Vietnam era recuiters are all dead and gone. The new ones wouldn't stoop to that.

Has anyone any definitive information as to whether the burkhas have been removed from the statues at the Department of Justice in DC? (Just maybe, the new landlord has a slightly broader sense of "Ars gratia artis")

And no politician seems to want to talk about it.

It seems that right now, today, there's more money being paid in than is going out. That situation has been with us for a long time, and we get to say,"Goodie, Goodie, we're in the money."

But not so fast! We've all (at least I hope) heard that Social Security Trust funds will need to be used starting in 2008, because there will be LESS money coming in than is going out.

Fine! We can handle that! After all, we've had a surplus going into the general fund for a long time! There must be lots of money there!

And here's the problem.....There's no big pile of money sitting there, waiting to be used. There's just a bunch of IOU's from the Federal Government (that's you and me in disguise). All that surplus got spent. It got spent to keep the Federal Government running, and fund all those amazing pork barrel projects. In order for the Social Security Trust Fund to pay retirees their full entitlement (and it is an entitlement, whether you like it or not), either taxes must be raised, or starting in 2008, retirees are going to get hosed out of their benefits, or something else is going to be unfunded to get the money to retirees.

Of course, there are other alternatives. Have you read "Soylent Green"? Now there's patriotism!

Perhaps in the future, when submitting a post in which those who disagree are called a name, or assigned some appelation, the poster would be so good as to close with: "Neener, Neener, Neener" or "Nannie, Nannie, Nannie", or some other clever statement.

By doing so, everyone who reads that post, will be able to chuckle, and not get their undies in a bunch over the name calling.

Otherwise, this forum might lapse into the doldrums of non-use, like the Rumanian Gopher Lover forum. Apologies in advance to all Rumanians, Gophers, Lovers, Rumanian Gophers, Rumanian Lovers, and Gopher Lovers.

Since mid day Tuesday, we've been getting reports about the helicopter down in Afghanistan. The various reports from the news outlets (foriegn and domestic) have indicated that the helicopter was alone, and that there was another chopper with it. That there were US troops on the ground at the crash site, and that there were not. That the helicopter was on a reinforcement insertion mission, and that it was not. That there were living persons on the ground at the site immediately after the crash, and that there were not. WOW! Somebody needs to get their act together.

The earliest press releases (from the pentagon) indicate that the chopper took an RPG. That says two things: There was communication from the helicopter before it went in, and that it was flying low and slow when it took the hit.

We should all hope, that either there were no survivors, or that any survivors are not currently guests of the Taliban.
