PST vs SolarMax40

Posted By Phil Shute

I thought I saw a thread some time back regarding the Coronado PST. Anyone have experience with it? I have a
TV-85. Is the SolarMax40 worth the $$ over the PST??

SolarMax40 vs MaxScope40

Posted By Phil Shute

HI,

I read the revue in Sky and Tel but want to know if
anyone else has compared these two products.

The article mentioned the darker background in the
MaxScope. I have a TV-85 but I like the idea of
two ways to view the sun at the same time.

Any thoughts?

Is the North Star true North?

Hi Larry,

Burnham's shows an RA/Dec of 1h 48.8m and 89d 02m (1950 coordinates) Using their precession map and a formula on the computer where I work (observatory), I come up with current
RA/Dec of (approx) 2h 21m 31s RA and 89d 17m 32s for April 2, 2002.

TV-102 tuned in on radio station

Posted By Phil Shute

Hi Ron,

Great post as usual! I have had the opportunity to "observe" 3c273 many times in the radio domain (an easy object in a 37meter dish! :^) ), but you have inspired me to try it with my 4" "photon phunnel".

Angel,

WOW!

OK here comes the dummy question. Can you descibe how
you image at f/25. What is done physically to the C14 to
get f/25?

Visual back for C8

Posted By Phil Shute

Yes,

I have a Tele-Vue SCT to 2" adapter (TV part#ACC-0003)
attached to my C8. It simply threads on and has a brass
compression ring to hold your diagonal.

I'll post an image later today!

PST vs SolarMax40

Posted By Phil Shute

Thanks for all the information! I wasn't able to make it to
the NEAF this year. I think what I have gleaned here is
that the PST is a very good buy for a solar prominence
telescope. If I want to see surface details, look at the
SolarMax...Many thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Ken, I hope your PST arrives in time, but don't forget to
have a regular white-light filter ready for the transit!
(I just hope the weather in NE N. America cooperates!)

What's your "travel scope"?

Posted By Phil Shute

TeleVue 85 w/bogan 410 head and triopod. It is a
rally nice scope and packs well for car trips.

although the "Wiliam Earl Telescope" looks very nice! smile
