Mount won't point below 10 degrees

Posted By jim davidson

I have an SVD mount and wished to use it near the equator but discovered the declination axis (?) will not point low enough to allow me to track properly. The OTA and counterweight assembly are already on the same side of the tripod so leaning it another 5 degrees or more is not a solution. Do other Orion/Celestron/Meade mounts have the same problem?

Thanks

Full range (0-90 deg)EQ mount ??

Posted By jim davidson

My SVD EQ mount only goes down to about 11 degrees, and up only to about 80 deg. Orion informed me that none of their mounts go down to 90 deg. Are there any CG4/CG5 type mounts out there that do? Reason I'm looking for one is that my home location is at -4 degrees. Also at 0 degrees the EQ could behave as an Alt-AZ, and serve for terrestrial viewing as well (like the old Tasco scopes).

Thanks

Good Binocular less than $150?

Posted By jim davidson

I'm looking for some decent binoculars under $150. Orion has two models in that price range - Ultra and Venture "Zoom" - are they okay?

Thanks -

Jim

Nexstar 80wa

Posted By jim davidson

I decided a N114GT being offered on Ebay for cheap $$ would be a good mount for several small scopes I have accumulated over the years - TV Oracle, C5, and 80WA. I'm attaching some pics of the 80wa attached to the mount. I assumed the n114GT would be a beefier mount but someone may clarify this for me. Thanks.

Afocal imaging eyepieces with the Stratus line

Posted By jim davidson

I have been doing some great video though cheaper eyepieces, so I am upgrading to a 21mm Stratus off Astomart. But I cannot find any info on the size of afocal adapter I will need and where it might be available. The Hyperion eyepieces are already threaded so all I need with them is a step ring. Could I be saving money by going with Hyperion's? :S

Digi-T adapters

Posted By jim davidson

Anyone know if the Scopetronix Digi-T adapter will fit a Stratus 21mm eyepiece? I am considering my next eyepiece purchase and I would like it to be compatible with equipment I already have. Alternative is the Hyperion series, if I need to consider another digital camera adapter, since they are already threaded for 37mm. The Universal type eyepiece adapters do not appear like they would work with any weight on the eyepiece when the scope is pointed up. Thanks much!

Meade 3.3 FR - defective?

Posted By jim davidson

I recently acquired a Meade 3.3 focal reducer for use on my Nexstar 8i. I was all set to hunt down M101 the other night, screwed in the fr and - nothing. Big donut. From one end of the focus range to the other. Took it off, screwed on my Celestron fr - refocused and all was well. I know the Meade is for CCD imaging and I planned on using my camera but wanted to locate the galaxy first with an eyepiece. I did have a William Optics 2" diagonal on the back of it. Impossible? Or defective Meade fr? Thanks. sad
