collimating a Vernonscope Brandon 94

Posted By Richard Nyborg

I am the original owner of a 1990 Brandon 94, the one with the heavy cell, that has the 6 adjustment screws on it (3 large, 3 small, in pairs). I want to make sure it is operating optimally, and was wondering how I should best check the collimation and then what is the recommended sequence to follow.

I own the Orion collimating eyepiece, and no other collimating tools.

Thanks,
-Rich

New info For Brandon 94mm owners

Posted By Richard Nyborg

Gentlemen!

As you may have read on Astromart or the Yahoo Brandon group last fall, we've been discussing using a Feathertouch focuser with a Brandon 94. Werner Schmidt, the owner of Starlight Instruments, now has the adapter ready. I have a attached a JPG of the prototype, made for Geoff G. of the Brandon Yahoo group. With Werner's permission, if you email me or send a private message to me, I can send you a CAD-like drawing in PDF format. The cost for the adapter is $85. It's recommended you get the 2" diameter version with an focus extension of 2.5". If you have special requirements that require a shorter or longer adapter length, let him know.

I've requested that mine will be black, like the focuser. The one pictured was bare metal, or had a clear coat.

His email is [email protected],
his phone number is 847-985-9595 M-F 9 AM to 6 PM CST, and
his website is http://www.starlightinstruments.com

Vixen Porta Dovetail compatibility

Posted By Richard Nyborg

Does anyone know if the Vixen Porta Alt-Az mount works with the Losmandy G-11 or G-8 dovetails?

It appears that it might work with the G-11 style, w/o any other adapters being required.

Thanks in advance.

Mike:

Excellent work! I really like views from this solar aspect, as the little craters really "pop" out at you.

I love visiting this forum, to see what can be done with the lastest available hardware and software, combined with persistence. Thanks for sharing the fruits of your labors.

Apollo Landing sites!

Mike: That is the best shot I've ever seen of that region; really shows the topography well in the Apollo (13)/14 landing site.

Excellent effort, Wes! Have you had an opportunity to try the Registax 4 beta on Plato or Copernicus yet?

Prime focus help ?.

Rick, fill us in on what you'd like to image. It's probably safe to say you'll want to get a motor on the RA axis, for tracking. It's nice to have motors on both axes, IMHO, but if you have a very good polar alignment, or you're doing very short exposures the dec axis motor isn't needed.
