Just acquired

Hello one and all,
I just acquired this interesting piece. It came with what seems to be extra lenses of some sort. I have taken it apart, section-by-section but I can't seem to find the application for it.
A client of mine, whose wife turned out to be an old family friend, had given this to me. He said it and come from his aunt's attic.
Now the only markings on it are on the lenses cover. All it says is "made in France".
Does anyone out there have any info this, such as who made it; it’s age and any idea of its value?

Dark Skies

Can anybody out there offer his or her opinion on this? I'm looking for the darkest skies in New York. I live on Long Island.
I've viewed from several different locations here but really haven't found any truly dark sites except for Montauk.
I have also viewed from Albany and Lake George and found the skies waning as well.

Thanks for the input Steve.

It looks like Long Lake is only about 1 hour, 45 minutes
from Lake George which is a very good thing considering I 'll be going there this Aug. ;-)
