Anyone familiar with the SONY DXC-151-A RGB/Vcam ?

Posted By Bryan Feldmann

Howdy folks,
I need a little heads up here if anyone can spare a minute. Any one familiar with a box video camera made by SONY who's designation is SONY DXC-151-A HYPER HAD RGB/IRIS Color Video Camera. I can not seem to find much at all about it on the net except for a vague refrence to microscopy? I found it on a auction site new in the box and payed a lot less for it then it "appears" to be worth. I wonder if I could use it in astronomy? Maybe a lunar cam? It looks to have a VGA port as well as a BNC plug in the back aong with what appears to be some control dials located on the side of camera possably to ajust the IRIS? Can anyone help me here and tell me what the heck I bought and if it's good for anything?
Thanks guys,
B-man

Please help, Whts the best DSLR for astro?

Posted By Bryan Feldmann

I need the forums help here,
I'm getting a digital SLR for Christmas. I need to know your opinion of the best DSLR for astrophotography. I already own one of the older parrellel driven ST-237's and have a Celestar DX topped off with a 70mm TAK (attached to main tube) Guess I could use the 237 to guide for a DSLR maybe? Whats a DSLR capable of anyway? I'd assume the best ones have some type of option to keep the shutter open for longer durations then most? Or some kind of HAD CCD (sony?) Was looking at a PENTAX K100D that proports to be able to use ANY PENTAX SLR PENTAX lens ever made and there for would attach easily to my scopes?. and I read somthing about it using a APS-C size CCD...wht dat? dhhhaaaa My cousin told me to buy a Cannon Rebel XTI? but that thing use's somthing new called CMOS? what ever DSLR I get it has to cost no more then 850.00 COULD YOU PLEASE HELP WITH SOME ADVICE ? I DON"T HAVE MUCH TIME.

ORION's NEW STARSHOOT Camera any opinions?

Posted By Bryan Feldmann

Hello folks, and hope you had a Merry Christmas and will injoy the upcomming New Year

I wasn't sure of the best place to post my string CCD Imaging "Deep Sky" or Equipment Talk. Maybe I should try both, is that forum legal?
Anyway's I wanted to know if anyone had formulated an opinion of Orion,s new Starshoot USB deep sky camera. Using, I believe, a relitivily new Sony exview HAD 1/3 752x582 inline CCD sensor with thermo-cooling ( somthing they call TEC ) Camera is inexpensive as these things go at $400.00. The camera comes with a special version of Maxim, and supports auto-guiding for a "second" camera. I like the idea of a hyper cooled inline CCD. I've owned a SBIG ST-237/FASTAR system for years but allways found the tedious image processing a real time consumer that had me taking far more monochrome images then color. Living in a med. size city with typical light dome problems I generally shot color only in the very best of conditions and mostly during winter. Looking at the Orion Starshoot I'm embarresed to admit that I find myself wondering if I wouldn't get more use out of this little $400.00 camera then I do know from my considerably more expensive ST-237. Hmmmmmmmm. I have a pier mounted Celestron SMT toped off with a small 70mm Tak. Bought a Robo Focus a while back for remote ops though that got a little more complicated then I'd like but I got it to work. Also just got a Cannon Rebel DSLR for christmas. Given all that there What would YOU do? I do not for see myself upgrading to a far more expensive self-guiding CCD camera less I upgrade my scope as well ( unlikely)
Ease of use then is one of my primary motavations but down grading to a $400 camera from a $1400 camera just don't seem....ahhhh right? I guess then what really matters is what this 400.00 camera with SONYs new Exview can do and if the end result can hold a candle when compared to the best of SBIG ( the 237 anyways )

Anyone ever get to use one of these Starshoots that is allready familiar with a 237?

(I own a SONY security camera using the new Exview and it does give one a very sweet view compared to cams using the earlier chip.)
Anything you have to say on the subject would intrest me greatly so please have at it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

SONY DXC-151A, any thoughts?

Posted By Bryan Feldmann

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are about to injoy a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I just wanted to know if any one is familiar with this camera and if it might make for a decent astro tool. Picked it up for a song and dance on ebay a couple months back. Had the idea it might work out to be decent astro video cam. It's got a full boat of control though they are on board controls which does make it a little inconveiant but the cam itself is not overly large or heavy. I think this camera is used for educational or medical purpose's. It has a onboard direct VGA out port as well a your coomon BNC ports. If any one is familiar with this camera I'd be intrested to here about it. Any thoughts at all are well come.
AND, to kill two birds with one stone here, just to let you know, I recently posted another string concerning ORION's new STARSHOOT USB DeepSky camera over in "EQUIPMENT TALK" It would please me greatly if you'd have a look and made a comment or two, or do it here if you like, but if you do know anything at all about either one of these afor mentioned cameras I'd be happy to here of it. AND If I am not mistaken, and I probably am, I think that the SONY DXC-151A and this new STARSHOOT may have somthing in common with both using the Exview 1/3 color CCD? Any comments about SONY CCD's for astronomy are also wellcome. I appreciate your help guys, thanks

What can I post in classifieds?

Posted By Bryan Feldmann

I'm a long time time be it a casual astromart user and I should know this but ain't been active for a few. Wanted to post the old Gateway solo 6300 laptop I use to run my SBIG ST-237 astro-cam. Upon reading the classifieds it clearly says to only post astronomy equipment at the top of the add page. However, the category tab has always listed "other then astronmy" equipment amongst other stuff. And, long as I can remmember I've listed "boarder line" astronomy related stuff with no problem.
Question: Am I gonna have a problem listing my laptop as boarder line equipment related to?
