Meade 1206 Focuser: Thumbscrew specs

Posted By Stephen Holak

Anyone know the size / specs of the thumbscrew that holds in the old 1206 focuser? Mine broke off and I need to drill out the thread, but wanted to get a replacement before I do. Old installation manual doesn't reference the data. Meade customer service email bounces.

TIA
Regards
Steve

GOPRO for Photography???

Posted By Stephen Holak

I believe I've seen that some screw-in webcam adapters (like this:  https://www.walmart.com/ip/1-25-Webcam-Adapter-for-Astronomy-Telescope-CCD-Camera-Monocular-Professional-Telescope-Accessories/917891779?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101092407) work for those, depending on the model. There's stuff like this too:

That tool . . . awesome. I didn't know it existed, but I can think of a million times I could have used it and saved a lot of trips to the HW store . . . thanks for posting!

Help on locating part for Orion 80mm short tube

Posted By Stephen Holak

I have an old short tube that I am missing the end piece that holds the 1.25" eyepiece (see attached image.) I see similar parts online but not sure if there would be a thread match where it screws on to the tube.

Orion support won't help because I'm not the original owner and can't tell them the date / purchaser; I got it used years ago.

Can you help me find this part or a substitute?

(LX-200 Classic) PEC Correction Training: Hand Controller vs. Autoguider

Posted By Stephen Holak

Does anyone know if PEC correction training pulses from an autoguider (either ST4 or RS232 port) are used, or is the data only collected and stored by the controller? (LX200 Classic)

Advice and Experience Sought: Losmandy G-11 GFT vs. Celestron CGX-L

Posted By Stephen Holak

I'm looking to de-fork my old 12" SCT and remount it on an EQ. Total weight with guidescopes and camera is 46-50 lbs.

These two mounts are in my budget and available:

http://sieravision.com/products/Losmandy-G%252d11-GFT-Motorized-EQ-GoTo-Mount-with-Tripod.html

http://sieravision.com/products/Celestron-CGX%252dL-GoTo-EQ-Mount-with-Tripod.html

The choice seems obvious, with the CGX-L having a 15-lb higher capacity rating for only a hundred or so more $. I don't care much about pointing accuracy, object database, or the quality of the tripod, since I'm going to pier mount it and use a different planetarium program.

Am I on-target with going for the higher payload mount, or is there a significant quality difference in the Losmandy stability or engineering or tracking that alters the equation? Anyone with experience in these mounts: I welcome your advice and input.

TIA
Steve
