Hi Everybody.

The tounge-in-cheek title means this:

When the scientist says "Evolution seems to be true because....", he is practicing science. When he says "There is nothing but the material universe" he is "commiting" philosophy (an endeavor I am all for!). His reasons for the former come from within the realm of science. His reasons for the latter come from outside it. He cannot use science to show the truth or falsity of the second statement, anymore than a theist can use it to prove *his* position. What say you all?

Hi Everybody.

There's a book called "Wittgenstein's Poker", and it's about two of the finest 20th century philosophers whose philosophical bents were (to say the least) at odds: Ludwig Wittgenstein and Karl Popper. The book is a mini-biography of these two, but also an overview of their methods and way of looking at things. But the book centers around a ten-minute meeting of them at the Cambridge Moral Science Club in 1947 (I think), at which the following was puported to happen:

Popper was giving a paper and Wittgenstein, fed up with his conclusions was purported to grab a hot poker from the fireplace and wave it in Popper's direction, saying: "Give me ONE example of an absolute truth!" To which Popper (allegedly) replied: "One should not threaten visiting professors with hot pokers!" (and you thought that *this* was an antagonistic forum!). Book says that this may be apocryphal; eye-witnesses differ on the account. But that's part of the fun of the book. It's a real good read.

I've got a Kendrick 12v 18 amp-hr battery , which is not charging with the Kendrick charger. The red light on the charger refuses to turn green (indicating a full charge). My volt meter says the battery is charged to 9 v, but stays there no matter how long I have it charging.

All connections seem good. The fuse on the charger is good and the battery and charger are only a few years old.
Bad battery or charger?

I've been reading all the posts about the AP 130 f/6 with amusement and trepidation (have been on the waiting list since 7/2000). Isn't it the case that the 130 f/6 is no longer beeing made, and will be replaced with a longer focal length 5"?

Will it be a 140mm with a focal ratio of about 8?

Can you tell us this much, Roland?

I've had problems with my 7.5 and 5 LE's fogging up due to close proximity of my eye. Will a dew heater solve this problem?
