I want a goto scope - I have an old c8 on a fork mount with a wedge and it has great views. I am considering buying an LX-200 Fork mount for a 12" ota but where would I get mounting hardware for it for cheap?

I bought this used off of astromart and it works great and I believe the seller said it was an Orion. Anyway, my question is - there is a strap with velcro that heats but there is also a wire with a connector on it coming from the strap and I can't figure out what the wire is for.

I have an orange c8 that I have a chance to put in either mount for about the same money. Celestron doesn't recommend replacing the OTA - it says pointing accuracy decreases but I've talked to one person who put a c8 in it, put a pin on the ota and did okay with accuracy.

I've had digital setting circles before with the old fork mount of my c8 - don't know if it was the encoder or my install (had a bit of jury rig on the RA because of the age of the fork mount) but it didn't work.

Ok, the reason I want a goto or DSC is because I have 5 little kids and about 1 or 1 1/2 hours on clear evenings. I've been star hopping for a year now so I know the sky fairly well but am spending too much time hunting. So the goto while very nice isn't as important as being able to find objects accurately. One other snag is that it's difficult to see Polaris from my yard due to a tree line - I can get it in the winter if I work at it through the tree limbs but summers are more difficult.

What would you recommend?

I am looking for a book that would give detailed info. for objects to look for including charts for an 8" scope preferably by constellation where I don't have to go and draw the constellation lines back in. Some text and mostly charts and highlight reasonable objects to look for.

I have Turn Left at Orion and like the format but it's too limited. I have Burnham's book and it doesn't have charts. I have Sky Atltas 2000 (I believe) and the charts are too big and I want it by contsellation. The atlas doesn't have complete constellations on any of the pages and it has no lines.
