Tak FS-102 on GP Mount?

Posted By Anthony Pancotti

I just bought a Takahashi FS-102 and am looking for a good mount to put it on. Nothing to fancy (or expensive, just buying the scope cleaned me out). I was thinking about a Great/Super Polaris. Is it possible? Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Anthony

TV-101, FS-102: side-by-side comparison?

Posted By Anthony Pancotti

I was hesitant to post this message because I know it has been discussed before, but I, and I think others, were not fully satisfied. I am talking about the comparison between the Televue TV-101 and the Takahashi FS-102. Both high quality 4” APO’s, and yes I am aware they are 2 different scoped and a lot depends on what you are looking for. I have read many review for both that are always great, but I would love to hear about a side-by-side comparison. Anyone ever have the opportunity? How do they match up on planets and standard messier objects? Which one has better color correction? Ed Ting, if you are out there, your reviews are great and I would love to hear what you think (I have a feeling you’d pick the Tak). I know this is splitting hairs (as it was mentioned in another thread) and there is no way you could be disappointed with either. I guess I am just curious how many Tak and Televue fans are out there. So I am asking if anyone has looked through both scopes, I would really like to hear your personal opinions and experiences.

Thanks
Anthony

Eyepiece advice

Posted By Anthony Pancotti

I have resently purchased a FS-78, and seeing as how I am new the world of “high-end” amateur astronomy (you know, besides the scope I had as a kid), I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good eyepiece (or 2) to start looking at the moon, plants, and some of the brighter messier objects. I was hoping to buy Tak eyepieces to “stay in the family”
Thanks for any and all your advice.

Surveyor’s tripod

Posted By Anthony Pancotti

I was wondering of anyone has ever mounted their scope on an aluminum surveyor’s tripod. They are really cheap, compared to a lot of telescope tripods out there. And I haven’t dealt with one first hand, but they seem real sturdy too. I would think they would have to be with all the precise equipment surveyors’ use. I have a modified Teegull mount for a FS-78 I was thinking of trying to mount on one. If anyone has attempted this before I would love the advice.

compression rings

Posted By Anthony Pancotti

Hi all,

I have resently been using my new FS-78 on the few clear nights I get up here in buffalo. And I must say I LOVE it. What a great scope. This is my first 'serious' telescope. I am slowly learning the night sky and have a ball doing so. Anyway one of my favorite features of Tak is their compression rings. They are wonderful. I am curious why more high-end scopes don't use them. Is there some short coming I haven't noticed?
