Playhouse Observatory?

Posted By Dan Seliger

This may sound kind of odd to some but im looking for ideas here.

I would like to build a playhouse for my child, i have plenty of room in the backyard so im thinking to myself...why not build an observatory section onto it as well (with a separate door of course).

My question is, has anyone seen anything like this done before? I need part of the roof to slide and part not to slide. Or a dome on my section or something?

Looking for any and all ideas....

Thanks for your help!

Viewing DSOs

Posted By Dan Seliger

What is a good lens and filter combination to use to view DS0s to really see them? I have a 10" LX200GPS w/UHTC.

I'm having a hard time seeing objects such as M51, etc...
I can see the planets and closer stuff just great but have been having troubles bringing out those deep sky objects.

Any help is appreciated.

I am in a small city (Liberty Lake, WA) not the darkest, but not terribly bad either.

Need Scope Advice

Posted By Dan Seliger

I have a 10" LX200 GPS UHTC

I find myself using it less and less, the main reason being that its a bit heavy and hard for me to set up solo.

I need advice...and am hoping someone out there can give me some pointers in the right direction.

Here are my options as I see them:

1) Build a perma mount observatory in the backyard so its almost always setup and ready to use.

2) Sell and get an 8" LX200GPS

3) Sell and get a Refractor (and if so what size??)

4) Deal with it.

My viewing preference is pretty open, i enjoy just about everything up there and i want to keep my viewing options open as much as possible. I also dabble in CCD photography a bit so that would have to be a consideration.

Any and all comments/advice welcome!

Thanks!

Scope Recommendation.

Posted By Dan Seliger

I'm looking for a semi-portable scope (something i can take on a plane and not worry too much about doing so)

Something that offers super nice planetary and dso viewing both, I will be doing some photography as well. "Goto" is not a must but would be nice.

Any suggestions?

I'd like to keep it under $3000

Suggestions? $1000-$1500 ish

Posted By Dan Seliger

Looking for a good all around scope that travels well (airplane, camping, etc...)

Something in the $1000-$1500 range.

Would prefer something that has at least tracking capabilities, goto would be nice too, would also like something that works decent for pictures using my digi cam (i have the connector).

Suggestions? (I would like a refractor of some type personally but dont have much experience with them so im not sure which are good)
