"Normal" focus shift in a Cassegrain

Posted By Levente Szarka

In Cassegrain systems, where focusing is made by moving the primary mirror, mirror shift is a common "problem". How much mirror shift - in arcseconds - is acceptable? Is it possible to decrease the shift?

I've got a NexStar 8 and want to know how it compares to other telescopes.

Celestron 8 + Meade F3.3 reducer?

Posted By Levente Szarka

Is it possible to mate a Celestron 8 and a Meade f3.3
focal reducer? We attempted to do so but couldn't get
the picture focused. Are we doing something wrong or the
Meade f3.3 reducer is not compatible with the Celestron 8?
Does it make any difference if the scope is a Celestar or
a NexStar type?

Thank you,
Levente

Burgess CASS filter

Posted By Levente Szarka

I happenned to be the owner of a Burgess Optical CASS filter which does the same job as Sirius Optics' MinusViolet filter does, i.e. reduces the chromatic aberration on achromats. What is the difference between these filters? Is there a good reason why the CASS filter costs twice as much as the MinusViolet filter?

Thanks,
Levente

Orion Starmax/Apex line and baffling

Posted By Levente Szarka

I have an Orion Apex 90 and adjusting the Moon or Jupiter just out of the FOV I see huge amount of reflection. I feel this is the lack of adequate baffling, so my question is that can I eliminate somehow this problem? Also, have you experienced such annoying reflection with the big brother (Apex/Starmax 127) of this telescope?

As regards the optics it is almost as sharp as an ETX90, so in this respect it is good.

Thanks for your comments,
Levente

Meade #882 tripod and ETX90

Posted By Levente Szarka

As far as I know the Meade #882 Standard field tripod is designed for the ETX 70 scopes. Can I use an ETX 90 EC atop it, or the screw holes are simply different?

Thanks for reading,

How to use the Meade 2-3x barlow?

Posted By Levente Szarka

Might be a stupid question.... But is there anyone who
could help me out how to use the Meade 2-3x barlow? As far
as I know it employs an internal sliding lens to change
power, but I found nothing on the outside which could
enable me to slide the lense. There were no usage
instruction in the box so would you please help me out how to use this barlow?!

Thanks,
Levente

Burgess binoviewer - has anyone tried it?

Posted By Levente Szarka

As I see on Burgess Optical's homepage, they have come out with a new binoviewer. Has anyone tried it? How does it compare to other binoviewers, e.g. Blacknight, Celestron, Denkmeier?

Thanks,
Levente

Meade Series 4000 datas needed

Posted By Levente Szarka

Hi Gang,

I'm looking for the eye relief parameter of the Meade Series 4000 Super Plossl eyepieces. Is there anyone who could share this information with me?

Also, what makes them Super? Is it a marketing spiel only, or they are really different than the "ordinary" Plossls?

Thanks,
Levente

Antares vs UO vs Vixen ortho

Posted By Levente Szarka

Ok, maybe this question has little sense, but is here anyone who could comment how the Antares, the UO "classic", and Vixen orthos compare to each other?

Which one would you buy? I have a 7 mm Antares ortho ($51) coming from ScopeStuff and want to know how stupid decision it was :-)

Thanks,
Levente

Improved LEW eyepieces?

Posted By Levente Szarka

I've heard rumours that new, improved LEW eyepieces will appear on the market soon. They will be fully-multicoated and edge-blackened, unlike the current LEW eyepieces. (Note: I'm not talking about the Antares UW S70 or Orion Expanse eyepieces!)

Has anyone else heard about it?!

Thanks,
Levente
