Celestron Plossls

Posted By Steve McGettigan

Have any readers here tested the quality of the Plossls that Celestron has in their accessories kit? I'm seeing lots of these kits offered on the classified section, which I've gotten a few questions about - I head an astronomy group. I really haven't used any myself, so I'm throwing the question up for grabs.

Thanks!
Steve

Konig design

Posted By Steve McGettigan

Does anyone know where I can find a sketching or diagram of the element layout with the Konig design? I can find lots of other designs, but not with this particular one.

34mm Axiom vs. 35mm Panoptic

Posted By Steve McGettigan

Question: How do the aforementioned eyepieces compare in your experience? Edge sharpness, mechanical properties, and field curvature are my main concerns - eye relief and distortion aren't. I'm using an 8" f/4.9 Newtonian.

Thanks! Steve McGettigan

2" Konigs/Erfles & fast Newtonians

Posted By Steve McGettigan

I am looking for feedback for several 2" eyepieces in conjunction with a Newtonian system in the f/4.9 class. Any comments on how well the Orion Optilux, Omcon Erfles, Antares Erfles, and 2" UO Konigs work with the faster mirrors in your experience?

Thanks!
Steve

6mm Expanse and ghosting - easy improvement?

Posted By Steve McGettigan

I've done the same with some cheap Plossls, only with auto underbody sealer - giving it time to dry and cure thoroughly. Along with blackening the lens edges with a black marker, I was able to make some noteworthy improvements in contrast. I didn't notice any significant changes in ghosting - I would guess this is more a function of lens coatings. Although if I coated those with the auto sealer...smile
