A CG-5 mount that has been upgraded with wood legs does a good job with the FS102 for visual observing. It is also fine for digital snaps of the planets.

Try star testing the scope without your diagonal although I doubt this is problem. Perhaps it is out of collimation -if I was you (since the scope is new) I would send it to TNR to be looked at.

FS102 on a CG5 mount -- is this doable?

My FS102 worked fine on a CG5 mount (with wood legs)for purely visual use. The mount wasn't overloaded at all. The FS102 isn't that big of telescope (in terms of weight or length. I used generic tube rings (from scopestuff as I recall) and the Tak was solid as a rock.
