C9.25 problems

Posted By Jared Soares

I just purchased a C9.25 OTA. This is the model with the micrometer focuser. I want to remove the focuser assembly, it is held in with 4 screws. Are there any precautions that I should take when removing? I'm needing to clean the focuser and straighten the shaft as it is slightly bent.

Need help with C9.25 micrometer focuser

Posted By Jared Soares

I'm looking for someone that is familiar with the micrometer focuser used on the C9.25 OTA.

When the rectangular cover is removed from the focuser assembly, there is a small black lever on the counter assembly. Could someone tell me the purpose of the lever. I can send a digital picture if needed.

The reason that I removed the cover is because I heard something rolling around inside the OTA. I found the head of one of the screws broken off and rolling around the inside of the focuser. Luckily enough, it has not done any damage.

Thanks,
Jared

Could someone advise me on a selection of EP's for the Celestron CR150 refractor. I currently have a 45mm vixen/celestron silvertop, 26mm vixen/celestron silvertop, 12mm Type 2 Nagler and a 4mm Televue Radian. Additionally, a Celestron 1.25" Ultima Barlow.

Could someone explain the difference between a "porro prism" and a 45 degree erect image diagonal. Also the pro's and con's of either.

Nexstar 11 GPS vs. Takahashi FS-102

Posted By Jared Soares

I cuurently own a Celestron NexStar 11 GPS that is literally unused. It has been setup in my living room, but has never been taken outside or seen first light. I've sent the Motor Controller and Hand Controller to Celestron for the firmware upgrades so that all future upgrades can be performed by the user.

I have an opportunity for a straight across trade for a Takahashi FS-102 that includes the visual back, takahashi 50mm finder and carrying case. I've owned the NS-11 for 2-years and have never used it, so I'm questioning if I should even keep it. I also own a 10" DOB, TV-101, TV-85, SP-C102, SP-C80 and S-80. My wife uses the TV-101 on a Gibraltar mount and it's her favorite scope. I own a Losmandy GM-8 that is waiting to have an OTA mounted on it.

I'd like to hear peoples idea's on what I should consider doing.

Thanks in advance!
Jared

An opinion is just that.

Posted By Jared Soares

I've been following all of the posts going on and the constant bashing of brands. This is all quite amusing to me as I watch all of the on-going posts. What I can't understand is why anyone would feel offended by anothers pesonal opinion of a piece of Astronomy equipment or for that case, any other material belongings.

In the past year I've graduated to what many would define as the some of the bests eyepieces around, Naglers, Panoptics and Radians. During the process have sold my Japanese Meade's, Vixen's and older Celestron "Silver Tops". From my personal experience and my vision, I've gotta say that I really miss some of the pieces that I sold off. Most of my satisfaction with owning the Televues come from the fact that I know acording to the industry and fellow astronomers that the TV's are some of the best. However, life is sometimes a little cruel and a person is born blind from one eye and has very poor vision from another. To add to that Diabetes has helped in messing with the vision in my good eye as my blood sugar level continually bounces from OK to extreme highs. In my case this hinders me from taking advantage of what should be awesome viewing from the renowned Televue's. I'm not sure why but in many cases I can actually see better from some of the less sought after eyepieces. Now, I'm not saying that the Meade's Vixen's or Silvertops are better than that TeleVue's or Takahashi's, I'm just saying that in my case It seems that I can see better with one of those "lesser" eyepieces.

Another example. My other weakness in life is the quest for high-end audio equipment, some of it that cost more than a good used late-model auto. I'm really proud of the stuff that I own and am always eager to show it off when someone comes to visit. I've been a musician all of my life and appreciated the sound of fine audio equipment. Unfortunately, some of my freinds are so tone deaf that they could care less for the sounds of my hi-fi gear. Do I get angry at the fact that they can't hear the difference or quality of sound from my stereo? Heck no! After all I purchased for my listening pleasure and not theirs.

My point with all of this is everyone here on the forums should take comments and critisism with a grain of salt because an "opinion is just that".

Clear Skies to All,
Jared
