TAL 100 RS on a CG-5

Posted By Jason Rich

I am purchasing a TAL 100RS OTA and would like to try and mount it on my CG-5. Is it possible to buy a Dovetail Mounting Plate and attach the telescope mounting rings to it? Any other ideas (short of ditching the CG-5 for a better mount)? This is my second scope, and the first time I have tried to mount a scope other than the original to the CG5.

Thanks in advance

New CG-5 Mount

Posted By Jason Rich

Has anyone tested out the new CG-5 mount? I have a CG-5 that came with my G8 I purchased two years ago, and have been reasonably pleased with it, as I am not doing any Astrophotography with it, but over time it has developed some issues that make it "interesting" to use at times. My main issue I have with it is that at times it will lose friction while moving in RA and I have to loosen and re-tighten my RA. I have not tried re-greasing it with better grease yet, and that may fix the problem, but I was thinking that if the new mount is alot better, I may purchase it instead.

I also use a TAL 100 Refractor with my CG-5 and have absolutely loved the views.

Are there any mounts in the sub $300 price range that are significantly better than the CG5 that I should consider as well.

Thanks for the advice

Meade 9x63 Astronomical Binocular

Posted By Jason Rich

Has anyone checked out the new Meade 9x63 Astronomical Binocular? It is roof prism. I am looking to replace my cheapo Bushnel 10x50s and this looks like just the thing, however I cannot find a review. I have found it for just under $100 on the web. Seems like a good deal, but I dont know. I have a pair of Oberwerk 15x70's that I like when I can keep them in collimation, but I do like to just hold my binoculars from time to time, and the 10x50s have worked well in that regard.

Thanks,
