12 inch Meade GPS for starters

I have an astronomy student who wants to seriously get into astronomy and he has decided to get the 12 inch Meade GPS for starters. One reason for this choice is that he is very interested in later pursueing CCD imaging. Down the road he plans on getting a high end large aperture scope. Money is no object to him. I`m not real keen on his choice to get the Meade as I`ve heard of some problems with this scope. My question is what is the current status of this scope? Have the bugs been worked out by Meade? Thanks.

Eye opener

I have a friend who will soon be getting the 12 inch Meade GPS and also a 31mm Nagler along with a host of other accessories. My question is will this combo create any vignetting or light loss at the edge of the fov? Would the device called the "eye opener" benefit the performance with this combo? Thanks

Meade field derotator?

A friend just got a 12 inch Meade GPS and he will soon get into CCD imaging. I`ve heard that the derotator a few years ago was somewhat jumpy and that an equatorial wedge was the only way to go. Is this correct? Thanks

Astro Systems equatorial platforms

A friend just ordered one for his 20 inch Obsession. I was checking the website and it eluded to a 4 minute reset time. Is this anywhere near correct. My older Osypowski platform resets in less than 20 seconds.

Winter Star Party to be featured on CBS

CBS had a crew at the WSP for 2 days and nights and were filming and interviewing for a segment that should air on the CBS Morning News show this Sunday (2-23). The show is on from 8:00 - 9:30 CST. There is no guarantee this will be the date but it is definatley worth watching for. I along with many others were interviewed. The crew went to the trouble of getting their hands on some expensive night vision equipment for the night shots.
