#884 Deluxe Field Tripod for ETX

Posted By Haden Janda

I was wondering what anyone thought about this tripod (mead #884). It will be used with the ETX-90, but would it also hold up with an ETX-125 polar aligned? Or does anyone else have any suggestions to any other tripods in the 200$ range? Thanks for the information...HADEN

?! New Finder for Meade, ETX ?!

Posted By Haden Janda

I have a Meade ETX-90, and I found it quite awkward to use the finder near the zenith. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on how I can get a straight-through finder onto my meade telescope and be able to see stars near the zenith? I do not like the Idea of a right-angle finder due to the image flipping. I do not want to drill any holes in my scope either. Has anyone had any success with clamps from a hardware store, or an adapter that will substitute meades finders and be able to maneuver around high in the sky? Any suggestions would help, thanks ... Best exposure for Jupiter?

Posted By Haden Janda

Hi, Im new to AP and I was wondering what the best exposure for Jupiter would be, I am also under the impression that 1/8'' is the best for Saturn, and what about the moon? Of course I have been using the method of "taste and see." Thanks for the help and info. HADEN

Filters for ETX

Posted By Haden Janda

Hi, I have an ETX-90 and wanted to know more about filters. I have seen on other threads that a Lumicon UHC or an Orion Ultrablock (narrowband) filer might be the best choice for the 1st filter. Does anyone have input on what these would do? and what might I expect through my ETX-90?

I do most of my observing in Memphis where there is quite a bit of light pollution. I also try and get out of the city to enjoy darker skies whenever possible.

Thanks, HADEN

Best way to cool down a scope?

Posted By Haden Janda

Hello, I was wondering what is the best way to cool down a scope. I always take my scope out and let it sit in the cold, but should I remove any covers? Also, I have only had a scope since November and was wondering about warmer temperatures...will you have to do the same?

Also, I am going to the coast this next week and am planning to take my scope. Does anyone have any do's and do nots? I am not planning to submerse my telecope in sand, but it seems that winds may pick up sand or salt from the ocean. Any pointers?

Thanks, Haden...Looking forward to the views over the ocean than in this light filled city of Memphis.
