Hi all,

Call me crazy but I have a question... Is it possible to put the 40mm SolarMax between the objective of a , lets say, 4" F/8 refractor and the diagonal (i.e. BF-10)? Just at the point where the cone of light is 40mm you place the filter and you have a resolution of a 4". I can open the side of the tube to be able to tune it. Since the light isn't parallel to the surface anymore, will the bandpass shift be too much? I know it might be too bright so you will have to use a strong ND filter to compensate, any other potential problems?

7" Refractor near Los Angeles

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but that's the best I found. I own a great sample of a Meade 178ED. I was always wondering how it compares to a "real" high end 7" APO. I've looked at the planets through 7" and 8" APO's before but never side by side with my 178. I did compare to a 6" top quality APO before, and size rules.

Is anybody near Los Angeles interested in setting up their 7" APO near my scope to do a comparison before the planets go away?
