Ended up with an AR-5 and a smile!

Posted By Tom Allen

I think the AR-6 is a great scope as Cloudynights and many other folks say. A disk in my back seems to help decide what I lift nowadays though. So I called Dale at Analytical Scientific. They actually had one AR-5 in stock so yesterday in the heavy drizzle I drove down from Austin. They helped pull my new scope/mount out of the sealed boxes and check it out. Man, did it look good. Last night I put it together at home and stared at it all evening! Today it slewed for the first time. I'm just waiting for the rain to stop but I'm still smiling! I've heard if it rains when you get a scope, it's a good sign. I can't wait to look through it this week.

Clear skies,
ToM
(BTW, they have at least three AR-6"'s, a couple LX-90's, some SN-8/SN-10's, etc.-all in stock!)

127 ED Observations

I'm trying to decide on a 5" or 6" scope. I hear the 6 is too big. I read that the 5 is a better scope because of being lighter and in turn easier to setup night to night. Sounds like your scope gives great views. But you mentioned that you wish you had a 6" now. Would you rather have the 6" instead of the 5"?

AR-6 Before and After

Posted By Tom Allen

Everyone tells me the AR-6 is too big, bad color, etc. I keep reading the 5" is lighter and better. But I can't help thinking I want the 6" instead since I have a 3.1" now. The only thing I'm not sure of is the weight. Looks like you may have changed tripods? Since you have the 6, I'd sure like to know what you think of the 6" versus the 5" especially since it wouldn't be setup permanently.
