RTMC- Big Bear, California

Posted By Mike lanska
Hi folks -
For those of you planning to attend RTMC this year, plan
on taking your snow jackets, boots, etc. Remember last
year?????California only got 4 inches of rain. This year -
there's still 2 feet of snow at Big Bear, and RTMC is less
than a month away.
Let's hope we get a "warming trend" soon!
Always enjoyed this event.

Zeiss Pre-Moistened Lens Cloths

Posted By Mike lanska
Purchased a box of these from Scope City. There are 21
pre-moistened cloths. I can't believe how GREAT they
work.
They say, "non-abrasive lens cloths safely and quickly clean any lens, especially those with Zeiss anti-reflective
multi-layer coatings. High-tech ammonia-free formula cleans effectively without LEAVING STREAKS OR RESIDUE."
I got all my lenses out - and had a small assembly line
going, while watching the Lakers get their Butts beat.
$9.95 Can't beat that.

Seibert lenses - disappointed

Posted By Mike lanska
Purchased a 20mm plossl lense from Seibert. I should
have known - - by the price, I wasn't going to get
quality. Looking through it, it has this "tan/brown"
haze in the lense. Are they all like that????

Since I can't afford both - - what type of filter
would you recommend for observing Nebulas?
I have a Schmidt-Cass scope.
Thanks

MARS was better in viewing - - a month ago.

Posted By Mike lanska
My two friends, who have a Celestron 14", a 7" refractor,
and my 12" Meade, went back to the same area, (8800 ft)
that we were at a month ago. After viewing Mars both
Thursday and Friday (yesterday), we agreed that last
months observing was better. Do any of your agree?
Thanks
Mike L.

Can anyone suggest, a decent mid-price bioviewer?
A guy in our club bought the Televue, but that's
too much out of my price range. Anyone purchase
one they like? Thanks

Van Slyke "M2" Focuser

Posted By Mike lanska
Anyone using one of these focusers, instead of the
stock Meade focuser that comes with the LX200GPS scopes?
Did it help cure your image/mirror shift? Thanks

New Mexico - Enchanted Star Party - Oct

Posted By Mike lanska
Hello -
Has anyone attended the New Mexico
Star Party in October? This will be my
first year, coming from California. Is
there camping available on the Mt. at
8800 ft? The website indicates a
barbecue one evening, down at another
location. So, I guess - - -you have
to pack up all your stuff from the Mt.
and travel down, and RE-SETUP down at
another elevation? Can someone explain
all the events? Thanks in Advance

35 panoptic - Wow !!

Posted By Mike lanska
One of my regular lenses, is a Meade 32mm Super Wide Angle 2" lense. A friend of mine,
insisted I try his 35mm panoptic. Didn't think there be much difference. Boy, was I wrong !! It was like viewing through a porthole. We were viewing different nebulas with the OIII filter attached to it. There were NO EDGES in the viewing. Way Cool !
Gota get me one of these !!!!

Used PST

Posted By Mike lanska
What would be a "fair" price for a used PST?
There's been a few here on Astromart, but by
the time you pay for the shipping, along with the
sellers price - - - your within $50 of buying
a new one ! What's a fair price? Thanks
