Using a Meade Mount w/ TeleVue TV 76

Posted By George Victor

I was about to purchase a TelePod Encoder set-up with the Sky Tour Computer, until yesterday, when I was at the local mall. I went into a Discovery Channel Store and looked at their telescope line. Among the scopes I saw a small Meade refractor. It was the NGC 60. It had a computer built into the mount and was less than $200.00. That's less than the encoders from TeleVue. Today I found the same Meade scope on the internet for $134.95!!
Has anyone bought one of these cheap scopes just to salvage the XY positioning system? Is there a better unit than the one I am looking at? Should I scrap this idea and just spend the $700.00 or so for the computer from TeleVue?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Using Phillip's Planisphere (question)

Posted By George Victor

I hope this is the right section of the forum to post this. I guess the Star Wheel is "Equipment".
I just received a Phillip's Planisphere and have a question on its use for sunrise and sunset. I have read the directions on the back several times and just don't get it.
Thanks in advance.

TV 76 and TV 85 TWISTED ??

Posted By George Victor

I looked at a few TV 76 and TV 85 scopes and found an interesting "twist".
Threre are three screws on the black lens / dew shield holder at the front of the scope. (they are spaced around the outside).
There is also a thumbscrew at the back of the scope on top which locks the focus.
Now the twist.
If you look from the top looking down onto the scope, the front screw(s) should be centered and straight with the back screw. (For esthetic reasons). On the scopes I looked at they are slightly out of line. Look at yours, is it in line, or does it look like a slight twist will help?

Which Canon F-1?

Posted By George Victor

I have a Canon A-1 camera and already have the T Adapter.
I heard that the best camera to use has a mechanical B setting. My A-1 does not.
I want to get a F-1, but there are 4 different models. Which one is best for astro use?
