C9.25 on a G-11

Posted By Steve Dierckman

I replaced the CG-5/tripod that came with my C9.25 with a G11 mount. Differance between the two is like night and day. G11 is rock solid, very easy to use. Able to set up the tripod/mount/OTA in about five minutes. Mostly looked at the moon the past two nights. Mount stays locked on target, have not noticed any drift.

Have not noticed any issues with vibration. Could guide at 8x or 16x and there was not hint of vibration.

An outstanding set up.

Focuser for a C9.25

Posted By Steve Dierckman

Looking for some advice and info on a focuser for a C9.25 from those that have added this to their OTA.

Have found some info on a Williams SCT Crayford, Starlight and Burgess.

Will these work with both 2" and 1.25" optics? I currently only have 1.25" optics.

Will I need any add on accessories with any of the three afore mentioned vendors?

Any other manufacturers to check?

Is this a good option for a C9.25?

Thanks

High power eyepieces for TOA-130

Posted By Steve Dierckman

For those that have a TOA-130, what are some good choices for higher power eyepieces?
Say 150x to 300x. I don't wear glasses. I have a 9mm Nagler which gives me about 110x. Please no eyepiece wars, just looking for what others may be using.

Thanks

M42 and some questions

Posted By Steve Dierckman

Attached is a M42 image with some minor processing. Really my first try. Should say my first with the new scope. Image is 2 minutes, SM-2000, Unguided, TOA-130. Image is reduced. Initial results are much better than with the C9.25.

The core of M42 is saturated/over exposed. Is this normal when taking the initial image?

And is this something that gets cleaned up with more image processing?

My focus and tracking may be off, I'm more concerned about the initial image and saturation/over exposure.

Thanks for any comments and help.

Which Scope?

Posted By Steve Dierckman

John,

Some advice from a C9.25 owner. The CG5 mount with the aluminum tripod are insufficient for this OTA. Can take three-five seconds for the vibration to settle. The C9.25 weighs about 20 lbs. If you get a C9.25 with this set up(non-GOTO), you will definitely need to upgrade the tripod. Probably the mount also.

Cannot help comparing optics between Meade and Celestron.

Which Diagonal

Posted By Steve Dierckman

John,

You may want to run a Forum Search for diagonal. There have been prior discussions on this issue. I have a c9.25 and replaced my diagonal with a TV 1.25 Everbrite.

I will also be getting a new finder but that is 6 months down the road. If you are looking to get eyepieces, you can search the forum, many discussions on that issue also.

Beginning accessories for C-9.25 SCT?

Posted By Steve Dierckman

Verle,

A beefed up tripod may not be enough for the 9.25. You will have a lot of issues with vibration, just focusing the OTA on a CG-5 with the aluminum tripod causes vibration that will take 3-5 seconds to dampen.

You may want to look at getting just the OTA and then getting a G8. If you can justify the cost.

As far as eyepieces go, an Ultima 30mm, a TV 25 and a TV 15 may be good choices. An Ultima 18mm is also a very good eyepiece. I'm not sure that 10mm is a good choice with an unsturdy mount.

Adding additional hardware like a dew cap, a larger finder will only create more issues with vibration on the CG-5. When you start adding up these accessories, maybe a G8 is affordable.

10" SCT Diameter

Posted By Steve Dierckman

Nathan,

The lens cap on a Celestron C9.25 is 10 5/8 inches. The OTA is approx 10.5 inches.

Hope this helps you.
