Has anyone tried one of the Orion zoom eyepieces, they have a couple of models 1 1/2 inch format. adjustable from 7 to about 30mm. has anyone tried these, are they worth a hoot?

GTO Eyepieces

Posted By Leslie Hess

I was looking at the handsonoptics website and saw some GTO series 2 inch wide field eye pieces. The GTOWF26 is a 26mm with 70 degree fov, sounds good! What kind of quality are these? The price is good on them but I'm a little leary.

Thanks

Big tube!

Posted By Leslie Hess

My wife talked a local fiberglass tube maker out of this piece here, it is 12.25 inches ID and 48 inches long. do you guys see any problems with using this, besides the weight. I am making a 10 inch Dob f4.5. This is my first telescope and your advice is more than welcome...

Curved Spider

Posted By Leslie Hess

A friend of mine runs a saw mill and gave me an old worn out blade. it is 1 1/4 inches wide and abour 1/64th thick. This is very riged steel. It sounds to me like it could work very well for a curved spider. Sound doable??

I'm so confused, my head spins

Posted By Leslie Hess

Eypieces are driving me crazy! I'm building my first dob. I posted in the classifieds and got some wonderful responses and I thank all of you who did respond, I am still pondering what should I do...

I have no referance point, I am on a tight budget. I need 2" eyepieces for my 10 inch f4.5. I figure I must have 3 lenses to start out. A low power medium power and high power with nice fov.

Are Russell Optics ok? How do they compare to more expensive ones. Would I be sorry just to start out with 3 of Russell Optics lenses?

The ungreatful

I saw on CNN today where civilians with guns made us kill civilians who were protesting our presence there. They love the liberation but who will liberate them from themselves.

They are fundamentally unlike you and I. They to not aspire do what we do. Perhaps because they have never possesed it and just do not know or they are driven by generations of hate tought to them toward the sinfull western ways. Not to mention the Palistinion underlying issue with all of them.

To see this situation truly from thier perspective is difficult at best but you may rest assured the hate for us is real.

First try with my new scope!!

Posted By Leslie Hess

I installed the optics in the 10 inch dob I have been bulding, just roughly adjusted them using my eye through the focuser hole. I set the scope in the mount which is just mocked up and very rough.

I pointed it to the Moon! Absolutely awsome. The contrast was excellent and detail was stunning! This scope has far exceeded my expectations. I cannot wait to get the base finished and the optics collumnated correctly.

jupiter was very impressive, the bands could be seen easily along with 4 moon. Some chromatics were seen but I think those will go away after correctly adjusting the optics..
