XT,XL OR DSH?

Posted By Brian Fussell

I think I have decided to buy a 8" dob reflector, now I just need help with which brand to get. Here are the ones I have narrowed it down to:

Orion xt8 ...seems to be the most popular of all..449+shipping. 1 year warranty

Hand on Optics XL8..I talked to guy there and he claims it to be superior to the orion with a better price..449 incl shipping +barlow ,laser collimator, upgrade eyepieces included.2 year warranty

Hardin Optics DSH8...They also claim to be better quality than the Orion and have a great price right now 299+shipp..
just havent seen any reviews on any sights on this one.
1 yr warranty.

which one would you buy? and what eyepieces to go with it?

thanks alot

90 mm f/10 decent?

Posted By Brian Fussell

I have a 10" dob but am lookin for a smaller refractor for planets and the moon. Would the orion 90mm f/10 be a decent choice or would it not be any better than my dob for the planets? Orion has got it on sale for $249
thx

what type of focuser should i get??

Posted By Brian Fussell

Hi, I have a 2yr old hardin 10" dob. The focuser is my main problem now and would like to get a new one(under 100 bucks). Is a helical style good or stick with an upgrade of the type I have? most of my problem is there is alot of play in the 1.25 adapter after i tighten the set screw( because of that i never know if it is collimated correctly). anyway any info would be appreciated.
thx

do mine! do mine!

Posted By Brian Fussell

I am also a newbi, I have a hardin 10" dob and saw the good advise jack got on his ep collection, and was hoping I also could get some.
I do not wear eyeglasses.
I observe planets ,globs galaxies,nebulas,moon...basically eveything up there..
heres what I got..

40mm orion optilux (not good in this scope)
30mm celestron ultima
25mm astrola plossel
18 mm uo hd ortho
15mm televue plossel
12.5 ultima
9mm astrola plossel
7mm uo ortho
orion shorty plus barlow

I would like to narrow it down to 3 to 5 decent eps and a barlow (all 1.25).

what should I keep and get rid of?
thx

30xw

Posted By Brian Fussell

I have a 34 Siebert observatory ep now and like it alot, but I think I still need something with a smaller exit pupil. I have a 10" f/5 Gso Dob. Any impressions on the 30 xw as an alternative? I was also considering a 26 t5 as well. Any 30xw owners out there have any comment on this ep?
thx
