Question on 80mm short tube

Posted By warren silverman

My generic 80mm short tube has extremely low color at even 120x. When I look thru the eyepiece tube racked to normal focus position, I'm sure some of the outer edges of the objective are hidden from view. The old focuser stop down trick I guess. I could hacksaw the last inch of the focuser off, This would give me more light for deep sky but more chroma. Should I just live with it or hack it off?

Wooden tripod leg locking problem

Posted By warren silverman

I have a Meade LXD300 mount and one of the legs refuses to stay locked and of course collapses. It has a snow boot type of snaping lock, not your more usual pressure screw lock. any ideas on what needs to be adjusted to fix this problem?

Anyone with experience with these eyepieces please share your thoughts. I plan on using them with my Stellarvue Nighthawk and ETX 105. Thanks for your input.

Question on 80mm short tube

Posted By warren silverman

Great info Dan. I will give that a try. When I put my 6.4mm and barlow in I was expecting the Jimi Hendrix experience. Jupiter was a bit soft and the view was better at 85x but no purple from hell. The moon held up at 120x easy and I do not even think all the lense surfaces are coated! Any more comments anyone?

Ian,
Look At http://www.weasner.com/etx/techtips/collimation-tip.html
It is not something for a Newbee that is for sure. Good luck.

Old issues of S&T

Posted By warren silverman

Fantastic Floyd... I was a young boy/early teen in those years and I remember seeing Sky and Tel for the first time at the Hayden Planetarium(lived in NY then). Guess we will not see any posts for a while with all that reading! I now have a son named Hayden, but not named after that great sky theater. smile

Meade DS80mm F/11

Posted By warren silverman

I had one and the images were pretty bad. Reflections all over the field of view. Objects on the left side of the field would have a twin on the right. Could have been a bad one, but there are no lens cell adjustments.Very poor plastic focuser. Need I go on?

Anyone ever try one of these as a guide scope? I can buy one new for $45 and was considering it for this purpose.
