RA Drive

Posted By Joe McGraw

I am having problems with my RA drive. It will not go East. When I press East on the hand control I can hear the motor but it doesn't travel at all, then when I release the button, it backlashes to the west. Anyone have a clue what the problem could be?

Selling My LX50

Posted By Joe McGraw

I am just considering selling my telescope. I have fixed the RA drive problem, but now I am having problems with the hand control. SO what are your thoughts on what would be a good asking price, considering he/she may need to purchas a new hand control. With the money I am thinking of purchasing the LXD55 6" refractor. Or the ETX125. Which is better in your opinion, I live with alot of light pollution.

Thanks

LX50 Problem

Posted By Joe McGraw

Was wandering if anyone in this forum could help be diagnose a problem I am having with my scope. When I turn the scope on the LED on the control panel lights up, but the clock drive will not operate, and the scope will not take any commands from the hand box. When I disconnected the five-pin from the control panel and turn it on, it boots properly when the hand box does the diagnostic check. But the DEC still does not operate. Would appreciate any reccomendations. Meade said the no longer make parts for the LX50 so I guess all of us LX50 owners are going to be left in the darksad Just to be clear the DEC doesn't work with the five-pin connected or not. Thank you.

Better optics for worse conditions?

Posted By Joe McGraw

Hey Mike. If you live around light polluted skies I believe you should invest in a good light pollution filter such as the OIII filter by Lumicon for faint nebulae. For extremely faint objects you could go with a hydrogen-beta filter. But, for poor seeing I don't believe higher quality optics are going to improve your view.
