I called twice, and twice I was waiting on the phone for nearly 30 minutes and no one answered. >sad Is there any other more efficient way to contact them other than sending them snail mail? At the moment, I'm feeling really anti-Meade, perhaps some positive energy from this forum can help me. Heh! 8)

First Scope-Will this be too frustrating?

Hi,

A friend of mine has this DSH6 telescope and there seems to be problems with the mount being a little narrow. On a number of occasions, the tube would scrape the inner side of the mount. There are solutions to this problem, but just thought it would be nice to throw this out and see whether other people experience the same problems too.

NGC 4565

Very nice sketch Vincent! NGC4565 is one of my favorites galaxies like the many people here.
A friend of mine has a 20" too and we were observing M8 couple weeks ago. It looked like a cloud illuminated by an airplane, with all the seemingly 3D effect an all!

You would definitely see much more, but at the expense of having to haul around a heavy scope. As a sidenote, the best scope is one you use most often, which means a good consideration would also be ease of use and portability. Hope this helps. Clear Skies!

For quality at a good price, I think Discovery Telescopes offer some of the best. The dobs from Celestron, Orion, Hardin, etc are essentially almost the same, being either made in Synta (China) or Guan Sheng (Taiwan).
Ebay scopes are usually junk. Definitely be wary.

I have an MN56 which gives very nice views of the planets. I am not a planet observer so I can't really give you much information except that I could see quite a lot of detail other than just the cloud bands. I think the highest mag I used was around 200x

As a follow up to my comments on Meade's customer support, a comparison to ORION follows:

Called ORION today, the phone wait was 30seconds. Within 12 minutes, I got all my problems with an SVP mount that I have solved.

Nuff said about Meade :S
