Responding to an ad fails

Posted By Kurt Mihalco

Since yesterday evening, when I try to respond to a classified, I get a small popup window saying:
"We apologize for inconvenience. Astromart.com is currently down for maintenance. Please visit us back after sometime.
Thank You"
Anybody else getting a response through?

Search Classifieds broken again?

Posted By Kurt Mihalco

Tried for the last day to do a search, start date 1/1/2010, category "Eyepieces", Search for "Pentax". All I ever get back is: Site Busy
We are currently experiencing heavy traffic load. Please try your request again.
If I use a closer date, like 9/1/2010, it seems to work. What's up?
Thanks,
Kurt

Search Classifieds not working - yet again

Posted By Kurt Mihalco

Seems like the Search Classifieds function always comes back with:
"Site Busy, We are currently experiencing heavy traffic load. Please try your request again."
Trying later never gets a result! ;>)
It does seems to work searching for the last week or two, but looking over a couple of months or more - no bueno. It would be nice if this was fixed so it worked like it used to. For some rare stuff, you may need to search a few years to see a few sales.
Thanks,
Kurt

14 inch Mak-Newt on 1200 mount

Posted By Kurt Mihalco

Is this one of the 3 f4 and f4.5 mak-newt's that Markus made up recently? Particularly, is this the one that was for sale on Astromart?
Thanks,
Kurt

Re: 102mm Vixen f/6.5 traveler - proof of concept

Hi Greg,
I've found that many stores that carry upholstery supplies also can provide cut foam. I got the all the pieces to re-do my AP refractor case for $10. You can cut it with a hot wire. I used some .010 stainless wire (from www.mcmaster.com) with a variable DC (0-18v) power supply as a hot wire cutter. The wire needs to kept taut, as it will enlarge slightly when heated. I jury-rigged a small wood frame that worked ok. You can learn lots by googling "foam cutters".
Hope this helps.

GEM for TEC 160 ED (visual-only)?

Posted By Kurt Mihalco

Hi Dave,
If your budget allows it, I'd go with an AP900 on an ATS 48" pier. Hard to beat the combination. If you want something a little more portable, then you could go with an AP Mach1 on either a G11 or Tak Heavy Duty Metal tripod (IMO, the AP wood tripod isn't enough, and the Eagle Pier is too short for visual).
Best Regards,
Kurt
