I believe the vendor that Bill Rose mentioned is Helix Observing Accesories at http://www.helix-mfg.com/.

They have 5", 8", and 10" fork mounts for bino-telescopes. I have the 8" mount for my 125mm Borg and am very impressed by the quality of the mount.

4" Apo comparo?

I can't speak to the AP, but I had a TV101 (not NP) and loved it. However, when it came time for my 4" decision, I went with the new Stellarvue SV4. It's a nice triplet that I've had for all of about 1.5 weeks and still need some moonless nights to really "see" what it can do. The Stellarvue website has a link to some comparison photos between the Traveler and the SV4.

A fair share of my decision was based on the Stellarvue reputation, the scope's 23" length (shorter with the focuser removed), and it's 11 lbs. weight. I'll be taking it with me by air later this month and expect to carry it on board with me.

Just an FYI.

Check out the Stellarvue C-5 travel case. With the dew shield removed, the Orion 80 ED will fit nicely in the scope area, with a large circle to fit the diagonal, the dewshield, and about 8 eyepieces.

T SCOPES DOB QUESTION

I've had my 13.1" Tscope since August and love it. Excellent views (limited by weather), easy to move, great balance, motion, and mechanics. I have the Discovery optics primary, Kine focuser, and Orion 9x50 RA finder, DSCs (Sky Commander), and truss fastners. This was a move up from an Orion XT10 and I'm most happy with it. In my view, it represents the largest aperature/lightest weight/ best price combination on the market.

Have you considered an optical corrector (OCS) that would allow you to use one or two good larger focal length eyepieces at various mags in a binoviewer. I have 2 sets of good eyepieces and several (1.3x, 2x, 3x, etc) OCS adapters that fit on the front of my binoviewer. They work well and are easier to swap out in the dark.

T-Scopes 13-inch Dob

I've had my 13" T-scope since last September and love it. I had a nice XT10 prior to the Tscope, and find I truely see much more, more clearly, and with much less effort than before. The craftsmanship is excellent, and it moves very light and easy.

Mine is the standard model with a Discovery mirror, Kine Optics focuser, and Sky Commander DSCs. A friend with a very nice 10" Teleport fell off his chair about 3 weeks ago at the T-scope's view of Jupiter (a great big Mottza ball in the sky!).

For my Orion 80ED, I obtained a pre-drilled mounting plate from Stellarvue (about $20) and bought rings purchased from Orion (about $20) to mount the scope on my Panoramic mount.

Is the TV85 the perfect travel 'scope?

I have a 13" T-scope, an 8" UTI-8, and have just acquired a TV-85 for wide field viewing. But for my serious travel scope, I have the UTI-8. I've used it several times now and love it. I have 8 inches of great optics (Royce) in an easy-to-carry package. The scope comes with a nice airline portable case, that also has plenty of room for the collimator, and half a dozen TV eyepieces.

While I love the TV85 for it's performance and classy looks, when I add the weight and hassle of the mount (I use a Bogen 3036 and a Unistar Micro-mount), the UTI8 is simply a larger aperature in a smaller package.
