Questions on Meade models

Posted By David Purvin

I'm pretty much a newbie to telescopes and was looking into an 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain, but I wanted to make sure I had the models right. The only LX200 series they make now is LX200GPS-SMT. And the LX90 is basically what people refer to as an "LX200 'Classic'". Do I have it right? And if I do, what do you feel is a reasonable price for a used LX200 or LX90? Also, I've heard that the software on the LX90 is better than on the LX200 "Classic", if that is the case, am I able to upgrade the software on the Classic to what the LX90 currently has? And lastly, is the GPS really worth the money? Does it make life that much easier? Or is aligning the LX90 or LX200 - Classic not bad once I learn how to do it.

I REALLY appreciate any help. Thanx

David
