Before spending more $$ and finding you were close to there already. I would strongly urge you attend a local star party (if they are available to you). With Mars mania they have some momentum and seasoned users I would hope would let you observe thru various brands. You might be surprised how much you do have to spend to see an overwhelming difference.

Got a chance to do some observing thru a 20" starmaster a year or so back. Shrouded, accurately collimated, and 2" t.v. all the way. The DSO were incredible! Enjoy your Tscope.

On your 'best seeing' pix they are very nice and thanks for the tips. I was up in Northern Ariz doing some observing and I thought the images should have been a little crisper on my 10" SCT. Question on collimation. I gave up trying to get the airy disc and collimation in that fashion. I turned efforts more towards adjustments made while in focus to try and remove the tiny coma tails off several brightly clustered stars. Using Bobs knobs I found this a little easier for me. My images improved but I still feel collimation can be better. I found using the slightly out of focus method on a star for me produced to much spiking or flare in the image to work with, if you know what I mean. Any thoughts?

Hi Carlos;

I was able to still make about pretty good detail as well. It was a very dark sight in Northern, Arizona and indeed the polar cap has become a snowflake. Observation date was October 13th using a 10" Meade SCT. Eyepiece was 4000 series pl with Orion 2x shorty barlow. Observation time 9:00 pm MST. You show an excellent sketch.
