Nexstar and Losmandy GM8

Posted By Ericson Tham

Hi, I've just got a Nexstar 8 as a present and would like to do some serious DSO astrophotography. Read the reviews that the tracking in the Nexstar 8 is not suitable anything beyond 4-5 minutes at tracking. Anybody knows if I can remove the OTA and fix it on a Losmandy G8 mount?

Please advise.

Thanks

Medium format on a 8"

Posted By Ericson Tham

Hi, has anybody tried doing medium format (6x7) astrophotography on a nexstar 8? In fact, can a 8" accomodate medium format astrophotography?

Thanks

Nexstar 8" and a Tak 4" / 5" refractor

Posted By Ericson Tham

Hi Guys,

Would like to have your opinions on this. What's the difference between an 8" SCT and a Tak 4" refractor in terms of optical performance and astrophotogrpahy. If "bigger is better" then why are the Taks selling like hot cakes and the 8" left behind. Isn't a scope with a larger aperture supposed to be better?

Silly question, but I'm just dumbfounded smile

Thanks all.

C9.25 on a GM8

Posted By Ericson Tham

Hi Guys,

Would like to ask if anyone has tried mounting a C9.25 on a Losmandy GM8. I've read in the website that the GM8 is good for up till 8" and thats 12.5lb. But the 9.25" has got a weight of 20lb, its still within the recommended weight of 30lb stated by the Losmandy site. Will the mount be over-taxed? I am looking forward to add Tak Sky 90 II on the tube for photography. Feasible? If not, then I'll probably scrap the C9.25 idea and just ahead getting the Sky 90 itself.

Thanks for any advise.

Sky 90

Posted By Ericson Tham

Hi Guys,

Just wanna ask a question. Are all the Sky 90's coming out of Takahashi in Japan now the new version? I've read somewhere in the forums that there is a previous version and the new version is slightly different. Do you guys know anything about this?

Thanks

M31 Portrait

Posted By Ericson Tham

Hi Guys,

I'd like to ask a silly question out of inexperience. I've noticed that the Takahashi's seem to deliver fantastic DSO images even when the scope size is relatively small, and they seem to outbeat the usual 8" SCT and all. I am wondering is it because the the scope is just simply fantastic optically compared to the common SCT's or is there something else that contributes to these beautiful images. Other then having a good mount for tracking and clear skies, what is it that makes a good shot?

Thanks

Help with Film, Post-Processing, Focus! LONG

Hi Todd,

I dont know if you have tried this film, but you could try the Fuji Astia transparency film. Its got lower magenta in it and it could possibly reduce the red halo in your images.
