What kind of wood suitable for wood tripod legs ?

Dear all,

I am considering to tailor-make 3 wood tripod legs for a metal tripod top plate and wonder what kind of wood would be sturdy enough to withstand vibration caused by heavy weight, while the wood would be good enough to withstand moisture and shape distortion due to weather change.

All suggestions are welcome.

Why RA setting circle does not move ?

Dear all,

I have just purchased an EM200 Temma 2 mount and find a strange phenomenon that the RA setting circle (already tight-fixed with its 2 little screws) does not move with the RA motor (when pressing the hand controller or through stewing through The Sky GOTO) when the RA clutch is tight.

However, when I loosen the RA clutch, the RA setting circle can move when the RA axis is manually moved. This meants that the RA setting circle can only be used in manual mode.

The DEC setting circle is alright, however. It moves with DEC axis either manually or through DEC motor.

Perhaps some experienced EM200 mount owners can comment on the strange behaviour of the RA setting circle.

Light path of TV 2-inch Everbright Diagonal

This topic might have been mentioned somewhere in the achives but I have not yet checked them through.

Does anyone know the light path length of TV 2-inch Everbright Diaelectric Diagonal ? And does this light path length include the length of the nose piece of the diagonal ?

EM200 Temma 2 Guiding Rate ?

Dear All,

I am trying to use the free software Guidedog in webcam autoguiding EM200 and it appears that this software works with Temma through the ASCOM platform. In setting the autoguide parameters, the EM200 mount's Guide Rate in arc-sec per sec will have to be input for the Guidedog software.

Does anyone know the Guiding Rate of EM200 (Temma 2) in terms of a multiplier of the sideral rate (the sideral rate being 15 arc-sec per sec) ? What is the Guiding Rate for EM200 when autoguiding is used ?

For example, LX200 mount has a Guiding Rate of 2x sideral rate and it equals to 30 arc sec per sec.

1st attempt wide field Veil Nebula

My 1st attempt to capture Veil Nebula but my processing technique (especially on layers) still requires lots of practices :

Date : Sunday, 27-06-2004 at UT18.45 to UT 20.00
Venue : Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung, Hong Kong.
Canon 10D + 135mmL lens +1.4x extender on EM200 with webcam autoguide.
5 images x 10 min at ISO 400.

I have re-processed this image M8-M20 using Layers.

Canon10D with Canon 135mm at F2.8. 250 sec exposure with ISO at 400.

1st NGC 7000

Dear all,

This is my 1st NGC 7000 without using webcam autoguide or GOTO.

7 x 5 min images at ISO 800 with Canon 10D and 135mm + 1.4x extender
at F3.5 on EM200 unguided.

Taken on 13-07-2004 at about 17.00-18.45 UT at East Dam, Sai Kung, Hong Kong
when the sky was transparent at about 7/10 and seeing about 6/10.

M17 taken in Hong Kong on 14-07-04 amidst some very thin high clouds
but the sky transparency was high at about 6/10.

4 x 5 min at ISO 800 with 280mmF4.8 Leica M lens at F6.7 & Canon 10D
