The Scopestuff web site has these no name wide field eye pieces for $39. I just wondered if anyone knows if these are total crap or not. Thanks.

ET2 autocollimator or laser?

Posted By Dale Tubbs

Does anyone know if these would be good for f/5 scope? Would it be as accurate as a laser collimator? Thanks.

Using two filters?

Posted By Dale Tubbs

I only have one filter at present. It is a #21 red I have been using on mars. I ordered more that I am waiting for.My question is, can you use two of differnt colors at once, by putting one on the eyepiece and one on a barlow for instance? Thanks.

astonished & mesmerized

Posted By Dale Tubbs

Ever since I was a little kid, I have been fascinated by the stars and planets. How big are they? How far away are they? Why are they there? Where did they come from? Now I am 36 years old, and I'm still asking the same questions. I never go outside at night without looking up. Sure, all the same stuff is still there, the moon, Mars, all the same contellations, but they are no less fascinating than the night before. I didn't buy my first telescope until I was about 23 years old, and it was a piece of crap, rickety tasco. I didn't know anything about telescopes. All I knew is I wanted a better look at what was up there, and after some tedious positioning, I got that look. I'll never forget the first time I saw the rings around Saturn. Wow, what a wonderful sight. Yeah, it was about the size of a baby pea, but it was still wonderful. I was seeing it with my own eyes. It was far better than any hubble photo I have ever seen, just because it was real. And then there was the moon. Wow.

can you combine barlows?

Posted By Dale Tubbs

Could I put a 3x and a 2x together and have a 5x barlow? I would just go out and try it, but it is cloudy. Thanks.

RA tracking?

Posted By Dale Tubbs

Hello, in order to view Mars my scope is in a place where I can't see Polaris, so I cannot polar align. I just got a clock drive for the scope and I'm wondering if I would be close enough as long as the tripod is level and the lattitude is set for my area. Thanks.

scratch on primary mirror

Posted By Dale Tubbs

Will a small light scratch on the primary mirror have any effect on it's performance? I underwent the task of trying to remove the donut from the center of the mirror, so I could apply the reflective triangle for the "catseye" collimation tool. Following the instructions, I used acetone in an attempt to loosen the adhesive of the donut, but was unsuccessful at removing it, so just blackened it with a marker, and applied the triangle on top of it. Anyway, in the process of screwing around with the mirror, I created some smudges, so cleaned it, afterwards noticed a small, light scratch. Will that effect the mirror's performance? Thanks.

Oberwerk 20x80 light weight binocs

Posted By Dale Tubbs

I just ordered these. As winter is coming, I may not be inclined to lug my telescope out into the cold weather, so I ordered these things to look at the stars with. Does anyone else have these, and how do you like them?

Got my oberwerk 20X80 LW's today

So far I am impressed by them. It's not dark yet so I haven't looked at any stars yet, but they are pretty nice on The pine tree I looked at from about 150 yards. I could see individual needles on the branches. There were also three crows sitting in the tree, and I could clearly see their beaks. I was suprised at the detail of the 20X image. The collimation seems to be dead on. Hopefully it will stay half way clear, and I will be able to look at the moon tonight and see how much chromatic abberation they show, and I will report back on that. I'm a novice as far as optics go, but for 200 dollars I would highly reccomend these binoculars.
