Mag 1 portaballs

Posted By Mark Crosier

I've been thinking about picking up one of the Mag 1 8 or 12.5 inch portaballs. Just looking for some input from anyone with experience with these. I haven't seen anything used on the Mart which could be good or perhaps not so good. Thanks guys.

Yesterday was one of those moments when you really "get it." I've been doing transactions and monitoring various forums since getting into the hobby (read: obsession) about three years ago. Nothing but very good to absolutely excellent experiences with transactions. I have also learned an incredible amount just reading various posts. Many times the thinking and ideas are over my limited, non-engineering brain, but I still enjoy them.

This site and these forums have totally expanded my knowledge and my love for what's up there in the sky. I've progressed through a series of scopes until settling on a Celestron 80 ED on a CG5 which, because of ease of use and transport gets put to use a lot. Essentially I live "in Chicago", so the moon, planets and open clusters are the objects of my devotion.

Yesterday was, for all intents and purposes, like "Astro Christmas in July" as three different transactions arrived all at the same time. A binoviewer, a 2" Everbrite and...
MY FIRST FREAKIN' NAGLER!!!!! A Type 1 9mm. Needless to say I was giddy.

With yesterday's experience I realized it was time to support this wonderful resource so this morning i became a green level supporter.

Sorry for the length of this and I realize it's not really "equipment forum" related, but I monitor that forum and have learned so much (and been entertained too) from all of you that I wanted to just say thank you!

Binoviewing "problem", need help

Posted By Mark Crosier

I'm sure there is some easy and well known solution for this...

The gear:
Celestron C80ED
Stellarvue Binoviewer w/ 1.9 corrector pair of 23mm and 15mm

The problem:
I can't reach focus with the binoviewer. I seem to be running out of in-travel as the more i go in, the closer to focus I get, but still some distance off. Do I need an extension of some sort for the focuser? Thanks for your help.
