Repair

Posted By Dave Gustafson

I recently had Cory collimate my Nikon 8x42 Venturer LX binos and he did a great job. Very quick turn around time, too.

Got Dumped!

Posted By Dave Gustafson

If it makes you feel any better, I dumped them last year. I subscribed when I was thinking of getting a Burgess scope. I learned quickly that there was something seriously wrong with the company and that Yahoo group, but stayed on for awhile just for entertainment value. They sure do get their panties in a bunch, don't they?

Nexstar 5 Runaway Slewing

Posted By Dave Gustafson

I had the same problem with the original Nexstar 5 I used to own. I sent it to Celestron and they ended up replacing the whole thing...ota and mount. Luckily it was still under warranty.

Good luck,

Dave

Installing Threaded Inserts

Posted By Dave Gustafson

The way I installed mine was by screwing in the appropriate size bolt and pounding them in with a hammer. You just have to make sure the bolt stays straight which may required tapping the bolt on the side if it starts to wander. I'm sure there are more elegant ways but this worked for me.

Unusual or unique firearms?

Posted By Dave Gustafson

The most unique was a WW2 Russian 7.62X54R DP Light Machine Gun. It was fed by a 47-round pan-shaped drum from the top of the receiver.

polaris alt-az vs. giro et al

Posted By Dave Gustafson

Here is my TEC 140 and SV80S dual mounted on the Giro III. I'm using the Oberwerke HD Wood Tripod and it is very stable. There is some wiggle after focusing but it damps out quickly.
