Re: Meade Autostar Suite with LPI

Great shot. I am thinking of getting the LPI too. What mount did you use for the Saturn shot?

Thanks

Vixen Sphinx

Posted By wingko yung

Hi,

Can someone advice me if the Sphinx is adequate for the TV NP101? Is the polar alignment scope necessary for goto and tracking? Are thereany suitable portable power source for the mount?

Thanks

VC 200L

Hi,

I am considering getting a Vixen VC200L. I currently have a TV101. Can someone comment on the Vixen as a visual deepsky and planetary scope?

Thanks

Tom O platform

Posted By wingko yung

Hi,

I ordered a Tom Osypowski compact platform for my 8" Dob. I live in Canada where winter is severe. The standard motor is a servo one using a 9V dry cell battery. There is an option (extra cost) of a stepper motor running on a 12V DC rechargeable gel-cell battery. I wonder if anyone out there with experience using a Tom O compact platform in cold weather (often below -10 degree celsius) can comment.

Thanks

best public star party scope

Posted By wingko yung

Hi,

Any thoughts on what the 'best scope' for a PUBLIC star party is? That is, what kind of scope does the general public seem to enjoy viewing through, bearing in mind the kind of objects that are available in often light polluted environments. I have often found that sometimes the public did not seem to be overly impressed with the images through premium instruments, perhaps maybe they weren't as user friendly.

Lunar X

Posted By wingko yung

Hi,

I took a pic of the quarter moon last night afocally with a TV60 and a 10mm Plossl. I believe Lunar X is visible about 1/3 of the way from the 'right' end of the terminator. It is just 'above' Crater Werner.

Cheers,

advice on alt-azimuth mount

Posted By wingko yung

Hi,

I am looking for advice for a good alt-azimuth mount for my TV NP101 and TMB 80mm f/6. I am considering the following: Tele-Optik Giro3 DX, WO Easy Touch and Unistar from Universal Astronomics. The Discmounts are nice but they are out of my range.

Any suggetions would be much appreciated.

Wingko

PS I have heard that it can be difficult to balance a short tube refractor (such as the TMB 80mm f/6) on the Tele-Optik mount. Is this true?

Orion XT and Intelliscope Experts.......

Posted By wingko yung

Hi Vince,

I have the XT8i. The DSC is very accurate. The mount is orthogonal if assembled properly. I did have to replace a malfuntioning Azimuth encoder disc after several months (Orion sent me a replacement free of charge) and since then it has performed without problem. I usually get a warp factor of less than 0.4. The disadvantage is I didn't get to learn the sky well as a newbie.

Storm on Saturn

Posted By wingko yung

Hi Bob,

I noted the same white spot last night in the image I took through my 8 inch Dob using a Toucam and 5xPowermate in Toronto, Canada. My image is lacking in detail and has lots of noise. However the spot can be seen if one views the image at some distance from the screen.
