Newbie Saturn - More or leave it? [edited]

Posted By Will Day

I've been at this for a few weeks and getting the hang of Registax. I'd like to know your opinion. Stop processing (this image) here or keep trying, I feel like I'm banging my head on the wall. The colors seem off to me, not much depth. Maybe even different software? Suggested reading? Not sure what to expect from this type of equipment / method. No budget for new stuff for a while so no image scale improvements, and no web cam any time soon. Thanks for looking.

This is nothing like the super high Q results you can get with the web cams or better equipment but I thought it worthy of posting. My results are improving with practice. I don't see too many people doing what I am, afocal with a point and shoot doing video mode. This is right out of Registax, no PSP or Photo Shop processing. I'm starting to get pretty fair results with capturing detail. Now if I could only figure out a way to do DSOs with this thing. 8)

My M13

Posted By Will Day

I fought with my Atlas for a while before I figured out there was a single setting that needed to be changed, the guiding was driving me nutty. Here's the best M13 I hae been able to manage at 1000mm so far with my newt. Center crop due to coma, comments welcome.

M16

Posted By Will Day

Here's an attempt at M16 using an unmodded Nikon D40 on my C100 ED. Total time is 3 hours in 3 & 4 minute chunks. ISO 800

I've processed it a few times and I'm not happy with the color. It's hard to get the reds on this camera.

Canon Powershot Afocal Saturn, 6" scope (and Orion

FYI I've done tons of planetary with a little A70. One tip is that (on mine) the delay shutter works for movie mode too. That solved the ruined frames at the beginning of a run. For me focus and framing is done with the rings and such attached to the EP then the camera fastened to the adapter as the last step. I use full optical zoom and a barlowed 6.4 or 7.0 EP. Doing plaetary this way is easier than dragging the laptop out to the scope since the A70 fits in my pocket.

I've bee watching this from the sidelines and just want to weigh in. I've paid to join and supported once. I'd be happy to pay an anual subscription and perhaps a small per ad fee, not comission. It might be good to offer two or three levels. Level one, a few bucks a year and small per ad fee. Level II for guys who sell more pay a few bucks more for the year but that includes ...say 10 ads. Level III pays even more for the year gets more ads. If you want more ads in a year than your membership level includes, you pay for 'em. I guess I just dislike the comission thing.
