Does anyone know the actual costs of making good apos like tak's or ap's, labor and material? How about the mounts? I really have a hard time justifying tak's overpriced mounts.

I've heard comparisons saying that a 4" scope in true dark skies could top a 10" dob in suburbia. Having not been to TRULY dark skies, where one can see the milky way, I don't really know about this. Thanks.

I hear that ap made 4 inch apos starting at 795 dollars and 6 inch apos at a little over 1000 in the 80's. Even if that were in 2003 dollars, it seems a little too cheap!

I've been to recent star parties and checked out takahashi's overpriced mounts. They don't seem to outperform any quality, albeit cheaper, mount (i.e. losmandy, ap, maybe even vixen). I myself can't afford jack, but still don't understand why people who do opt for the tak's.

How do I check for scratches on the surface of the coatings? When I tried the flashlight test on my meade sct UHTC optics, I found MANY, MANY surface scratchmarks that I didn't make. Also, when the corrector fogs up, they appear.
