Focuser length on a dobsonian

Posted By Vittal Badithe

How does one measure the amount of focus available
in a focuser?

Is it only the length of the focuser drawn out from
where the knob exists or is it the length of the entire
focuser where it is attached to the tube - to the
full drawn out end?

Building my first reflector

Posted By Vittal Badithe

In trying to build myself a 10" dobsonian
i purchased a kit that came with a 2.75"
secondary. The primary is a F4.

Is the secondary too big?

Circular rings

Posted By Vittal Badithe

Hi

Does any one know why these rings appear? My camera
is a digital SLR Fuji S1 FinePix Pro. These rings appear
only when i try to picture solar flares with a Lumicon 1.5A
prominence filter. These don't appear when sunspots are
captured.

Polar scope on CI-700

Posted By Vittal Badithe

I obtained a CI-700 mount this morning and having
trouble understanding how to align the polar scope.
Can the mount be aligned without a telescope?
What is the sequence generally?

I am used to a CG-4 where the RA axis rotates along with
scope.

4" refractor tube rings

Posted By Vittal Badithe

These rings came with the 4"celestron refractor. They have
two screws at the top - a threaded rod with a knob and the other is just an emplty threaded hole.

Does any one know what these are for ? cannot attach a camera
as the design forces the camera to turn instead of the knob
and can position at awkward angles serving no purpose.

covered? am planning on a permanent pier

keep the mount safe?

Directions and Drift Alignment

Posted By Vittal Badithe

I adjusted the eyepiece reticle xhairs to match the movement of the
star with the buttons on my handcontroller. Declination presses moved
exactly along the N/S line and RA presses moved the star along E/W
line.

While performing a drift alignment, i observed the star's movement in a
north-westerly direction. Hoping that it would come back due to a PEC, i
waited but it drifted further north-west. Is this PEC or a mount that
is still requiring Azimuth adjustments?

The equipment was a Meade ETX125 while tube, 12.5mm Xhair illuminated
eyepiece on a Televue 5x powermate. All of this on a Celestron CI-700
mount

Can anyone comment?
