Discovery Truss scopes...

Posted By Chad Cummins

I have had one of the first Starmaster scopes and am considering a bigger scope. Has anyone made the move down to discovey scopes from a premium dob? What was your impression? How have the optics been lately? They are really a great deal and I am most interested in the 15 and 15 inch versions... Thanks

For OCA users only...

Posted By Chad Cummins

With every effort to avoid a flame war did you BK bino guys know that you can remove the bottem off of a 2X shorty barlow and replace the lower element of the OCA and get a 2.5 X OCA.... I tried it last night and had to mess with the spacing to get the focus point right but it worked. Still don't have a detailed report on my BK bino because it was too cold to wait for my mirror to cool... Indianapolis was 18 last night....

Thanks

An old AP 400 with quartz drives.

Posted By Chad Cummins

I am getting a new AP and am looking for a mount. Where the old Ap 400's (from the mid 90's without goto) as high quality as today's? How would it compare to a new GM-8 or even some of the Vixen equipment?

Thanks

Anyone do any real science from home?

I am just curious if anyone in this group is doing any spectographic analysis or anything that they publish. Variable stars? Just wondering really if outside of comets what else people work on or discover...

siebert contest guess

Posted By Chad Cummins

My guess is that it contains the negative doublet that can connect to the front of the binoviewer by itself(2x). Then can be used with the standard OCA(1.5x). There is a sliding internal double (I am guessing the negative one that is on the lower side of the adapter that can move the negative elements farther from the reducing elements. to acheive the other magnifications.

Yeah when AP starts shipping out scopes it seems that the “Off” brands (TEC, TMB, Tak) all start appearing but the new in the box AP stuff is even more surprising.
