Help! Need info about a focuser problem

Posted By Don Schmitz

I recently bought a VX80 (Vixen) scope from Orion that was a 2nd or clearance item. The focuser slips and doesn't mesh with the drawtube track. Opened the 4 screw panel and believe I am missing maybe a tension spring or something thereof that would push the rack and pinion against the track. Is there a spring or mechanism that should be there?

Celestron (Vixen) refractor Super Polaris drive

Posted By Don Schmitz

Does any one know why Celestron, during the early 1990s, had their own Super Polaris drive system rather than using the Vixen drives with the metal housings? I have their drive systems without the metal housings and I wonder how do they compare to the Vixen drives?

Condensation inside of refractor lens

Posted By Don Schmitz

Being new to this forum, I'm sure this topic must have been discussed. But please indulge me. I have a SP -C102 (Vixen) refractor, and after a night under the stars, and when it is cold outside, condenstation forms on the inside of my telescope lens when I bring the scope into a warm house. After a few minutes or so, it clears after I remove the diagonal and let the scope reach ambient temperature. How do you avoid this condensation, and will this condensation lead to lens problems in the future?

Forum webpage format

I really enjoy your website but find the forum webpages to be a little confusing in terms of following discussions. One format that seems to be less confusing is the one I list below. Down the road a bit, when you decide to make some changes (webmasters are always making changes), you may want to consider this type of forum format:

Anyway, great website and very informative.
