Meade LX10 question

Posted By Bob Parr

I just got a new in box meade lx10 from here. And contrary to what the manual said (or someone had already messed with it) it was not set for the norther hemisphere. I fixed that easily enough, but it still is not tracking very well. I is better when I turn the motor on, but it seems that the motor is not moving fast enough. When I use the hand controler, press east it does move back and when I press west it does move out of FOV faster. Is this due to improper alignment of the mount or does the motor need adjustment. When I changed the hemesphere, I did see a potentiometer. could this be a speed adjustment? I also have the objects in view drifting down a little. Which axis is out for that. I am looking almost directly up with a diagnal.

web cam help

Posted By Bob Parr

A short while ago some one posted either pic or a link to pics showing a single raw image of saturn and I think also jupiter, as well as the finall with many stacked frames. Would that person please post that again. I am trying to do some of this but need a reference as to what a good raw pic looks like vs a bad one, prefereably from the same avi. Also is there a good place to find info about how to use registax? I found a site that tells how to use it, but I really don't understand what all the different setting are supposed to do.

DEC motor for Meade lx10

Posted By Bob Parr

I am looking to get a DEC motor drive for my LX10. I see that JMI has one for about $5 more than the meade. normally I like to stay with oem but I have heard some complaints about the meade drive. Any one have any experience with these two? would like some advice.

Thanks,
Ken

couple of newbie questions

Posted By Bob Parr

I have a meade lx10 and am looking to get into astrophotograpy and have a couple questions. first: how important is a focal reducer? second, if using an off axis guider and a t-ring, then the whole scope becomes the lense and I don't have any differing magnification right? and third, can you recomend a good book or online source for enough info to get me started?

Thanks,
Ken

illuminated eyepieces for guiding

Posted By Bob Parr

I am looking to get into astrophotography and was looking at the different EPs for guiding. I know that normally you want the best EP you can afford, but for just guiding I am thinking I can get away with a lesser and therefor cheeper EP. since I am not looking for detail, just the position of a star. Am I crazy?

Dec motor mount on LX 10 8 inch

Posted By Bob Parr

I just got the JMI dec motor for my LX10 8inch. It came with the wrong screws to mount the bracket to the fork. Can anyone give me the specs on what size and thread count for the screw that holds the dec motor bracket?

polar alignment scope

Posted By Bob Parr

Okay, I have a meade lx10 8 inch scope with a wedge mount. I would like to be able to use a polar alignment scope. I have only found one that will work with a wedge and it was pricey. wouldnt' it be a simple thing to create a mount for any polar alignment scope? I just need to create a mound that is exactly perpendicular to the base (where the scope mounts) of the wedge, right? I could mount the alignment scope set my alignment then mount the lx10. seems simple enough.
