I need a Map Seal for Star Atlas 2000

Posted By john shea

I have Tirions Star Atlas 2000 Desk version and would like to coat it with some sealer. Some suggest Map Seal by Aqua Seal but that can be expensive. Has anyone tried other products? I want to waterproof the maps. And I do not want to invest in the field version-now that is Expensive!
Thank You

Telrad vs EZ Finder

Posted By john shea

I have a Telrad but I hear more people using the EZ Finder which Orion is marketing. Like to hear of people who have tried both and what their likes and dislikes were between the two.

Denatured Alcohol for mirror cleaning

Posted By john shea

Home Depot and Loews does not sell 91 proof alcohol for mirror cleaning. What they do sell is S-L-X Denatured Alcohol. There is no percentage on the can. This alcohol is used as a fuel for marine stoves and they advertise it also for cleaning glass. Is this ok to use on the mirror?

Trouble lining up Primary Mirror

Posted By john shea

Installed a JMI Focuser on my 10" Meade Starfinder. I put a reinforcement ring in the exact center of the primary.Collimated the diagonal and then started the primary.Problem is I cannot get the "ring" in the center of the diagonal. I run out of screw adjustment. What is this telling me? The diagonal is not lined up? Any help appreciated since I am new to this.

What is the garbage on my primary?

Posted By john shea

Everything went well when I cleaned my mirror yesterday. Mounted it in the scope, collimated, put the covers on and went to bed. This afternoon I looked in the scope at the primary and noticed it is full of some type of spots, like water got on the primary and dried but this is not possible. Anyone have this happen to them? I also state the mirror was not like that when I put it back into the scope. It was clean.

Lasers for shutting down streetlamps

Posted By john shea

I need a good laser for shutting down a powerlight. I moved here two years ago because there were no lights and now some lady decides she wants a mercury vapor light from the power company for the entrance to her driveway from the street. This is directly across from my viewing area and less than 100 feet. It would destroy my observing. So what are some good lasers and what is the best way to mount one into an efficient system.

Orions Atlas Mount

Posted By john shea

I was thinking of purchasing the Atlas mount for my 10" Meade Starfinder Newtonian. This is the one which sells for 700 smackaroos. Anyone purchase one and wonder what you think of its performance.

Where can I purchase a quality Red Laser

Posted By john shea

On my previous topic about a laser pointer, some mentioned places to purchase them at Z Bolt, Howie Glatter, Beta Electronics but all I see there are Green Lasers. They would throw a beam of light which I do not want. So I am looking for a quality Red Laser. Where can I purchase these guys?
