Evolution of the ED APOs?

I am considering a 4" or 5" ED, based only on what I'm reading in forums, on review websits, etc., it sounds like Meade has experienced a learning curve with these scopes, and they have finally got it right. If I am looking at used units on Astromart or other sources, is there a "cut off date" where I would not want to stay away from older scopes? What't this groups experience with Meade regarding service on "non original owner" scopes? Regards, Todd Alving, Hopkinton, MA

ED 127 on the LX650 Mount, Overload or "OK"?

Any experience in the group with this? Have seen what the LDX 55 SN8 vs. SN10 can do to steadiness of the same mount (LSD55) and do not want to go down that road.

Thoughts on Meade's LX650 Mount?

Currently reveiwing options regarding aquistion of an 4" APO/mount purchase. Whats the groups opinion of the Meade mount? Others have indicated that it is "funky"? Have looked through the 120ED and can see the possibilities at much less $ than a Tak/Losmandy kit, and would like to take advantage of the Meade LS650/1697 Computer Control set-up, but not interested if its going to be a struggle. any thoughts? Orion Atlas Mount

I have the opportunity to pick up one of these with a Meade 127ED, was hoping to find feedback relative to quality of this mount, not much on the web and there is no orion forum here, does anyone have one of these? Is there a computor available for this mount? Todd Alving, Hopkinton, MA

ED 152 on an Orion Atlas Mount?

Looking for a suitable mount for a 152. Anyone have any experience with the atlas? Seems like a pretty sturdy mount for the money, only wish I knew more about stability, quality of finish, any imput welcome. Todd Alving

Meade 152ED on an Orion Mount

Looking for a suitable mount for a 152. Orion's Atlas seems to fit the bill weight-wise, any experience out there on use with a large refractor. I think the weight of a 152 is about 20-lbs, primarily interested in high power observing. Todd Alving

Thanks to Gregg et al for the responses to my inquiry. I get the sense that there really isn't an "early vs. late" manufacturing date thing going on here with the EDs, and that you really need to simply adjust if necessary the OTA that you have, is that fair? Can the group give me an idea of a "list" of items required to get/keep an ED in alignment and tip top shape? Todd Alving
