ETX-90 ViewFinder Question

Posted By Anat Ruangrassamee

Hi Larry:

I use a 9x50 RACI finderscope from Orion. It is attached to an Orion dovetail base plate and an Orion tube ring with a 100 mm ID as you can see from the photo. You need to do slight modification as follows:
1) drill a hole at the center of the base plate for connecting the base plate to the tube ring by a 1/4" bolt.
2) Since the inside diameter of the ETX90 OTA is slightly larger than the ID of the tube. You need to replace the tube ring fastener by a longer bolt.

That is all. Hope this helps.

Hi Zhou:

I saw your post in HK Astrofarm with some details. But I don't understand Chinese grin I am interested to know about your hardware:
1) webcam (modified or unmodified?)
2) how do you interface a computer with the mount?
And what is your evaluation of the test? Thank you very much.

You may use a special DC-DC adapter for your particular notebook in this website.

It can be operated from a 12-28V power source.

MAGELLAN 1 HOOK UP

Posted By Anat Ruangrassamee

Hi:

Please look into the Files directory of the LX10 yahoo group. There are some documents related to how to connect Magellan 1 and encoders to LX10. I think you will have an idea to connect it to your LX50. Please also check the LX50 yahoo group. You can find encoders from usdigital.com The model compatible with Magellan is S1, S2, E2, and E3. Hope this helps grin

Barska 50mm Red Dot finder scope

Posted By Anat Ruangrassamee

From my experience, red dot finders for guns are too bright for astronomical use even though the brightness is set at its lowest. I have used a rigel quikfinder and an Orion 9x50 finder with my ETX90RA. They work well.

Moon Filters

I recommend the Lumicon variable polarizing filter. It is excellent optically and mechanically. You can vary the transmission level from 5% to 30%. When you separate the polarizinng filter into two pieces and fix one to a diagonal and the other to the eyepiece, you can adjust the brightness on-the-fly while viewing.
