problem with time star time lapse and Nikon D7000

Posted By Jonathan Lingel

Does anybody know how to avoid getting a flickering effect between frames when doing a time lapse of the night sky? It is as if the iso changes at a random amount between frames. Thanks-Jon Lingel

coating uncoated objective lens

Posted By Jonathan Lingel

Is there such a service that would anti-reflective coat an uncoated 6" objective lens? I scored a 6" f15 Jeagers with cell, at the Oregon
star party last year for $40. So far I have spend almost $2K buying used parts to coble together the rest of the scope. I would like to
have that lens coated. It has a couple of small scratches on it and would that hinder the possibility of getting it coated?

Older Losmandy G-11 mount R.A. shaft and setting c

Posted By Jonathan Lingel

I have purchased a very used G-11 mount on Astromart and am working on getting it up and running.
One problem I have is that the R.A. setting circle was not operating properly. When taking the
mount apart it seems that the thrust washer, other washers and roller bearing were not in the correct
order. Does anybody know the proper order on how the washers and bearing go on?
Thanks.

Optics and cushion foam

Posted By Jonathan Lingel

I am building a 6" long focus refractor and have made a carrying/storage case
for it. I would like to cushion the inside with foam rubber (like what is
inside cheap cushions). I seem to recall that the out-gassing may cause a
film to form on the lens. Is there any chance of that happening?
thanks,
-Jon

follow up statement on ratings

Is there any way to leave a follow up statement, or change a rating.
I was generously refunded a partial payment when the item proved to
have many problems that the seller was not aware of.

Nikon D800 or D7100 for astrophotograhy

Has anybody tried one of these cameras? I am particularly interested
in the "video" mode since now one can adjust exposure and iso.

aligning objective lens

Posted By Jonathan Lingel

I bought a 6" f15 Jeagars lens and cell for $40 at a astro flea market a couple of years ago. I could not believe my luck. Just the night before I was telling a friend that one of my biggest astro-regrets was selling a scope I made with a 4" f15 Jeagars lens. Well over the past few years I have been building this scope and making it better and better (an additional $2K so far), but the scope does not seem to have quite the "snap" focus that my old 4" had. I wonder if it could be an alignment issue. Is there an easy test to tell?

autoguider with gemini 1

Posted By Jonathan Lingel

Any recommendations for an autoguider for the Losmandy Gemini 1. I had bought a "stand alone" autoguider (no need for pc) but it fried
the computer in the Gemini 1 on my G-11.

losmandy g-11 with gemini 1 and encoders

Posted By Jonathan Lingel

A couple of years back I purchased a g-11 with gemini 1 and encoder option that allows one to manually slew the scope without having to re-initialize the computer. It did not come with the "pigtail" connectors that would connect the gemini 1 computer with the encoders.
I have not been able to find this cable or how I can make one up. When talking to Losmandy, they claim that it was a concept but never
actually offered yet there is a port for it on the gemini 1 computer and it is referenced in the manual. Can anybody shed any light on this
for me? Thanks.

I need Help with astrophotography!!

It is not very easy but takes practice. First would be to get a cable release so that there are no vibrations. If you camera
has the ability to lock up the mirror, use that. Even the vibrations of the shutter moving can blur the image. Use different
exposures to find the best. Using the video mode works best and use the free software called registax and stack hundreds of
images. Also image processing software like photoshop helps also. It ain't easy but with practice it will be rewarding.
