Hello all

Before my last computer went up in smoke I had a really excellent program that displayed the position of jupiters moons - I now cannot find it on line to download again.

Can someone point me in the right direction please!

Hello All

I have a 14" LX200 which I intend to mount on a pier in a 'Sky Shed' roll-off observatory. I will be using a 'Mitty' wedge

Doing the math of 44 inches for the scope and wedge against the 72 inch wall height, this only leaves me 32 inches for the pier - it just seem too short!!!

Does anyone have a similar set up, and can you let me know what size pier you have!

I am looking to buy a solar telescope and have obviously been drawn to the Coronado range. On the limited research I have done I think I would like something more than the PST. My question is, should I buy a SM40, or SM60, or buy a filter kit that I can fit to a Meade ETX 60, 90 or 125?

What are the drawbacks of the ETX / filter approach compared to a dedicated solar scope?

Hello All

Following my posts about the PST, I ended up buying a used SolarMax40 from AstroMart.

It is due to arrive tomorrow and I am going to want to try it the moment it arrives - while I am off work, and before the clouds roll in this weekend!

My question is, before I decide on a perminent mount for the scope, does it have the attachment to fit to a standard camera tripod? Should I be looking for another type of monunt?

How do you good folk out there mount your 40's, 60's and 90's?

My SolarMax 40 arrived today in perfect, like new condition but is lacking the instruction manual. Does anyone know if an online source for one, or have a scanned one they could email me?

Hello All

I am beginning the search for a good quality scope for lunar and planetary work, both for visual and CCD.

I would welcome input on which scope is best for this type of work, everyone suggests a refractor but I would appreciate any hands on experience with actual models. I'm looking in the less than $5000 range if possible!

At the moment I have a 10" STC.

One of my Xmas presents was a tool chest for the observatory, I want to keep eyepieces etc in it. Does anyone know a good source for 'pluck foam' I can use in the draws?

I need a portable scope and wonder if I should wait for the 'big one' or purchase a 12 inch.

Hi all,

After months of delay I finally managed to finish my observatory - and I'm very happy with it! Here in the high desert of Nevada wood does not last long so I sprang for a Tech Pier 7x7 roll-off and electric Pier 2. I am very, very happy with both. The observatory is very well made and went together easily. The pier handles the weight of the 14" LX200 without any problem and has a very smooth operation.

I located the observatory in a sheltered position due to frequent winds; the sky view is still good with the pier extended. The garden wall also helps block some of the light from 'The Strip.'

I eventually intend to remotely operate the scope from the office visible to the right in the photos, we have a few months of shirtsleeve observing nights coming up however, so I am in no rush to complete that task.

We had a brief first light through the scope last night- supercharged by Dr. Clay - mainly viewing Saturn. I am amazed at what this scope can do, the supercharge was worth every cent!
