Zhumell CrystalView moon and skyglow?

Posted By Joseph Bowman

The Zhumell doesn't say anything about having a Neodymium substrate, so they are probably not the same.

Binoviewing w/ a chromacor

Posted By Joseph Bowman

I have a Chromacor N type 1. I use it with my 215mm F12.5 and Baader Mark 4 w/glasspath compensators, 1.25x,1.7x & 2.6x. Without the compensators you must account for the optical length of the binoviewer in order keep that critical distance between eyepiece & Chromacor. I use a 120mm extension tube with the compensators and remove it with B.V. only. With my setup all the combinations work great. Longer focal lengths like my refractor also have a greater distance between the Chromacor and the E.P. than the 150mm F8 that the Chromacor was designed for. I have a Nikon 26mm B.V. with an old 2" U.O. 2x barlow. With the barlow lens mounted in the 2" nose piece I get exactly 2x. The Nikon gives very good performance with or without the barlow, but not quite as good as the Mark 4. Hope this helps....

Florida Critter Count?

Posted By Joseph Bowman

We have several type of poisonous snakes...Diamond Back and Pygmy rattlers, Cotton Mouth Moccasins and the Coral Snake come to mind and perhaps even more types. Non poisonous types I've seen include Black snakes, Chicken Snakes, Indigo and Scarlet King snakes. Poisonous snakes aren't seen very much in your average residential areas, however, you will run across them on occasion if you go to a dark sky area. If you live close to any body of water there is also a chance you will see a snake or even an alligator. The further you get away from the city the greater the chance. Also there was some problems with escaped Monitor Lizards and other invasive types like the pythons you mentioned. Always be careful where stick your hand or foot...I was born in Florida and I'm sixty years old and have never been bitten by any of the above mentioned critters and I've spent a lot time in wild places. It is a small price you pay for the stable skies and usually great planetary viewing we have here. You might try this link: www.flmnh.ufl.edu/herpetology/FL-GUIDE/Venomsnk.htm

Disks of Jupiters moons

Posted By Joseph Bowman

Rick-My old RV-6 could show the moons as discs easily. It wasn't too hard to identify the moons based on their size & brightness.

"Are you serious?"

Mark,

I didn't catch your previous thread about being forced into a contract so I do not know what the responses where in that thread. In case it wasn't noted, how about being drafted into the Army? I know I was and it scared the hell out of me (10-22-68)
